“The best memories”
Reviewed 20 November 2009

I was just flyed from the States from the hot Carribean and was looking for the place to stay in St Petersburg. I was walking through the wind, rain and coldness of Petersburgs autumn as I found little nice and cosy place, which appeared to me to be smthing above the sky. Clean and nice rooms with the beatiful view of the center of the city with good design and interior along with good personell on reception.. I remember beautiful fotos of sky, airplanes and clouds that makes you want your dreams come true ))
Enjoy your staying here and be surprised with the prices.

This is the fourth hotel in three trips to St. Petersburg and by far the best value yet. It is conveniently located between the Hermitage and Church of the Savior on the Spilled Blood. It is considered the budget choice of the Nevsky Hotel group so I wasn't expecting the Waldorf. But this pleasant mini-hotel is super clean with modern features. The rooms, though small as are most rooms in St. Petersburg, are quite comfortable. The receptionist were all kind, friendly and helpful. The wifi worked wonderfully, which might seem an insignificant matter, but two previous hotels that claimed to have wifi proved disappointing. When Skype allows regular calls home, having good wifi is super important. We were in rooms with shared bath part of the time but because we had not made reservations in advance, had to move to a room with bath to accomodate advanced booking. It is always convenient to have ensuite bath but I actually preferred the room with shared bath. There was a super clean dorm style bath for women and one for men which was a nice bonus over other inns with shared bath that have one bath for all. It was so convenient and shared by only a few rooms,it really didn't bother me at all not to have it in the room. There were also two balconies which were a most pleasant surprise. One was spacious overlooking the inner courtyard and accomodated the smokers while the other smaller balcony had the most amazing view of St. Petersburg with an awesome view of the Church of the Spilled Blood's domes. There was a hearty buffet breakfast served at the Nevsky Grand across the street. With all the great aspects of this little inn, I found it hard to believe I was paying less than 2000 rub per night. By far the best value I have seen in St. Petersburg!!!! My only suggestion is to book early!! I would imagine it stays well booked!

The location is great and the rooms are clean. The free internet is fine as long as you dont want to type in text in your email - well mine didnt work and the security gate off the street didnt work. They didnt fix the internet problem but directed me down the street to another one of their hotels. I had to go to another hotel to get them to call the hotel where they didnt believe i was putting in the correct code at first and after insisting they sent a mr fix it to let me in. frustrating. my room was noisy as it was near the security entrance for my floor - so all night it beeped and slammed as people came and went. Overall it is a good clean ecomonic hotel in a perfect area but these things spoilt it for me.

This was an excellent find. So close to everything and steps from the Hermitage. Also, I couldn't believe the cleanliness of this place. I noticed they have an in house cleaning staff that maintains the premises throughout the day and evening. Mind you, I stayed at the end of November, during the low season, so it's difficult to judge since there weren't as many people staying there. However, the kitchen was spotless, and since there is a supermarket across the street, it's easy to do your own cooking here (they don't provide breakfast). You are a few blocks to Church on Spilled Blood, Nevsky Prospect, and most of the major attractions.

It's also a sociable place. I met many other people here. One thing they could work on is having more English speakers at the front desk, but they were friendly about everything and the check in procedure is pretty easy. The hotel registers you for free and I got it back pretty fast.

One small drawback is the Internet connection. It's so unbelievably slow. There is an Internet cafe nearby on the same street though. The hostel supposedly has wifi, but I didn't take advantage of it.

One major drawback is locating the place. What makes it difficult is that there is another Nevsky hotel on the street, so it can be confusing. The hostel is on Bolshaya Konushennaya, but it's within a courtyard, which are common in St. Petersburg. If you're arriving by way of Nevsky Prospect, the sign will be on the left in bright blue, but the hotel's name is in Cyrillic. Just look for the Louis Vuitton store on the left hand side of the street and walk through the courtyard that is next door to the store and you're there. Don't be dismayed by this because the hostel is really in the middle of everything and the courtyard location makes it quiet at night. It's safe too. Plus, if you go out the back courtyard you are a few steps to the Hermitage. Overall, my stay was fantastic!

This efficiency hotel has a great location for the price. The small rooms were brand new, clean, and air conditioned. Although the Sky Hotel offers little to nothing in the way of services, you can use the services of their sister hotels on the same street (including the breakfast buffet). Only caution is to beware the 6 floor walk-up (construction is underway for an elevator).
