When arriving late in the evening, I took a car from the airport - around 1300 RUB. Glad I did as the hotel isn't well located on Vasilevsky Island. I was greeted with "passport please" - although I was pleased that it was so polite. I duly handed over my passport and a photocopy was made. Quite standard from what I've seen in Russian hotels.
My room was prepaid, but then the receptionist demanded payment of 200 RUB. I enquired what this was for (no mention of it when booking etc) I was told its for photocopy and registration. I explained that since I am in Russia less than 7 days my visa did not need to be registered. He did not disagree, but pointed that it is the hotel policy. He dumped a plastic sign in front of my face which stated that all guests had to pay 200 RUB registration fee.
Not a lot of money, but it's the principal of being charged for nothing, well for a photocopy is poor and this disturbed my experience in this hotel. I chose not to eat in the restaurant or drink at the bar - taking my custom elsewhere. This was a shame as a hotel it is very modern, recently renovated. Spacious rooms, very clean!More
