Situated right in the heart of St Petersburg this is a great hotel for a city break with the luxury of a spa on site (free of charge). The hotel is modern and has all the essentials in the room such as hairdryer, iron, dressing gowns and fridge. WIFI is free too. Probably a bit pricey, even for a city centre, but then you get what you pay for. The only gripe I had was the check-in clerk, seeing me next in line, blatantly allowed 3 Russians to push right in front - perhaps a cultural thing not to queue but not expected in an international hotel.

Room Tip: I had a standard room and it had everything I needed, I wouldn't pay more.

This is a lovely hotel near the Hermitage and the centre of St.Petersburg ie St.Issac Square and the Nevsky Prospect.
The spa is first class and worth a visit . The staff are friendly and helpful about what to do and how to get there.
This was our first trip to the area and the hotel helped make it a pleasurable one.

I was travelling to big business conference (but with wife and small daughter 18 months). The hotel has good location (but not close to Metro - it may be usefull even when staying at 5 star hotel). Don't expect 5-star service from this hotel. For example when we have got out of taxi in front of hotel with 2 bags, stroller and so on. Nobody from the hotel stuff cared to help me with luggage. The room was not bad except bathroom. It was separated from room only by glass septum. It may seem romantic, bit every sound from bathroom can be easily heard in the room (so be careful). The breakfast was good. The stuff of the hotel was really unhelpful. I would never have chosen this hotel by myself.

The hotel is enjoyable and nice, but the furniture (shiny 70s pieces) is quite old in the rooms (but probably meant to be this way). The rooms are quite spacious (with a little sitting room). Breakfast is fantastic with Russian, blinis, caviar and champagne. But the most attractive part is the spa center, the equivalent of which I saw only in Korea. You will feel like coming back if only to enjoy this unforgettable experience. Fancy enjoying the swimming pool, watching the snow fall throguh the cupola above ... ?

The concierge staff were most helpful. The reception staff were making good efforts to be nice but I think the language barrier, even though they speak some English created a problem. It's difficult when a conversation doesn't flow. The Spa was amazing so therefore the shower water pressure and temp were great. The rooms were of good size but no drawers and insufficient storage. The beds were comfortable. The non-smoking floors or sections where the rooms are located were good. As in all indoor spaces in Russia, smoking is allowed. Even though you are sitting at a non-smoking area, unless the ventilation is strong, you will smell the smoke. So that was a problem in the lobby.
The use of the spa costs extra per day but it is free from 7am - 10. It's worth getting up early to use the spa for free. We were out all day so there was no point in paying for use after 10am. The saunas, steam rooms, pool etc were all fantastic!
As far as food in the hotel ... Don't go for the meals at the hotel. The food is awful and very, very pricey! The dinner buffet had a lousy selection and whatever was there was nothing to write home about and cost us about $45 per person without wine or any drink for that matter! They charged for water taken from the water cooler!!!!! When we complained, they offered it to us for free. For NY'ers it was a joke! Skip the hotel restaurants and go to restaurants in the center. We paid this amount at amazing restaurants for dinner (check my other reviews) WITH drinks!
Housekeeping was another negative about the hotel. We entered the room and it was not cleaned up properly, especially around the sink in the bathroom, the floors, the desk etc. Every day housekeeping came to clean but they did a lousy job. When I was downstairs at the reception desk I overheard another guest complaining about the housekeeping.
The location is not bad but if you don't like to walk a good 15 minutes to the center, this hotel might not be a good idea- Especially after sightseeing all day.

This is a large, well located hotel, ideal for visits to the Hermitage. However, the staff are surly at best, and some are positively rude. The air-conditioning struggled in the recent heatwave (though the left luggage room remained cold!) and the lobby was usually filled with guests complaining about some aspect of the service. Watch out for the "if you sit in the breakfast room and ask for a coffee only, you will be charged for the full buffet breakfast" scam, which took at least 15 minutes to resolve. Definitely a hotel to avoid.
