“Great place to stay with friends and children”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 November 2009

We spent a wonderfull time in this hotel and St. Petersburg in last summer. Rooms are clean, staff helpful (in Russian standard) and breakfast excellent. The spa was a peaceful place to relax after walking around unbelievable beautiful St. Petersburg. Distances are long, so don´t forget comfortable shoes/sneakers.

I really enjoyed my stay here. Its close enough to the Hermitage and the Peter Paul Fortress to walk.

The rooms are very modern, and rather clean. The television does have some English channels but they are mostly business channels.

The restaurants are great (but expensive). The staff is very friendly, and speak English very well (obviously the front desk will be better with English than other members of the staff).

After dinner I would suggest spending sometime in the lobby just hanging out, most of the other travels I met were very nice and fun to speak with. There were also a few guys playing chess, and others watching sports.

The main draw back is the hotels distance from a metro station. Also the business center is one just one computer, but there is no charge and there is a printer too.

Finally, use the hotel's taxi to get to the airport or the train station, or a gypsy taxi... a yellow taxi driver wanted 2,500 rubles to get to the hotel from the train station (the ride is worth about 500 rubles).

This is an amazing hotel. The location could be bit better but it is a longer walk away from the center, shich is ok. Rooms are large, beautifully decorated. Beds are very comfortable, Barthrooms are nice and big. Inernet is free everywhere in the hotel. Breakfast buffet is excellent. I really have no complaints. Sokos has a fantastic spa and a pool scene, with whirlpools, saunas, steam rooms and more. There are several bars, night club and a bowling alley. What I was very pleasantly surprised with was a fabulous customer service. everyone has been super friendly and helpful although the service at the lobby bar could be little faster. Over all, amazing hotel. I highly recommend it!

This hotel is a great value with beautiful ammentities and helpful staff. The reason for the reasonable price is that it is a little out of the way; a long walk to the Winter Palace and Nevsky Prospect. The breakfast is excellent with a variety of Russian and American foods. I would definitely stay here again.

We spent 4 nights at the Sokos Palace in August 2009. The hotel was very clean and well presented and the rooms, although small, were modern. We had a superior room - the only difference to a standard being a bathtub and a kettle (otherwise same size). If you intend to use the spa facilities (you have to pay for this which is very disappointing, although the spa is excellent) then i would not bother with the upgrade as you will not use the bath tub. The hotel is at least a 15 minutes walk to the Hermitage (the closest tourist attraction) so it is not close to the main sites and sounds of the City, but this is ok if you are doing tours or if the weather is ok and at less than half the price of comparable standard hotels it does feel worth the stay.

We were however disappointed that upon arrival, we had to push our own suitcases up the large entrance (on an upwards slope or steps) without any assistance as the door men watched. We then had to push them all the way to our rooms after check in - we would have expected someone offer to bring up our bags but unfortunately not. Staff did not look happy and were not very cheerful. There is 1 computer in the lobby available for guests so you normally had to wait a short while, but the connection was fast and it was an added bonus to have internet access.

The concierge was helpful, although she did not approve of the restaurants that we requested her to book for us, saying they were old and boring! (Paulkin and Restaurant Europe - both served amazing food, atmosphere at latter could have been better but nice live music). General Food and City advice: do not eat at Restauran (close to hotel) if you want any level of service but definitely try Teplo for delicious great value food with a great atmosphere and service (good lunch option). The concierge failed to tell us that the tickets they sold to the Hermitage for 1200RUB to avoid queing were over 3x the price you pay at the door and you can buy tickets online to avoid queing for far less. Make sure you request cabs from City Taxi from the concierge (and restaurants if you want a cab back to hotel) - they cost 300 - 350RUB to go anywhere in the centre and 800RUB to go to the airport. Do not use the hotel's own cars and certainly not the taxi's in the street who will definitely try and cheat you.

Arrived feeling ropey after overnight train from Moscow. Pitched up at 7am, and although we had to pay a full day's rate for the early check-in (standard time 1400), it was well worth it. Cool, spacious, funky bedroom;complimentary water; luscious Molten Brown products; impressive shower room.
Many sofas in the lobby area, English newspapers, the bars and cafes are great and the most of the staff brilliant and friendly. A couple of the younger ones on reception appeared supercilious but maybe that's youth.
The location is lovely as Vasilevsky Island is quiet and seems thousands of kilometres away from the tourist hell surrounding Dvortsovaya Ploschad yet it is only a rather charming ten minute walk away.
But the best thing is the breakfast - ok so it cost me £20 and £10 for my son, but wow! I had a glass of sparkling wine every morning, fresh fruit and juices galore, bacon, eggs, cheeses, vast selection of bread, cereals, dumplings on and on and on. In fact, it keeps you going all day. And I noticed a few people smuggling stuff out under their clothes!
The price we paid was reasonable, about 6,000 roubles per night for three nights and 4,500 per night for the remaining two nights. I noticed there was a price list on reception which lists the room rate at double that.
Didn't use the spa but by all accounts it was impressive.
