“Dark and cold room”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 January 2012

Our room was dark and cold.Terribly soft bed. Only 3 English channels all of them presenting The news over and over again... considering the price one would expect a little bit more. The hotel is located by a very busy street and far away from the metro plus no interesting places to dine or relax exept for Scottish pub across the road. Very professional receptionists. Clean room.

We had two night stay at the business class room at 7th (the attic) floor.
The entire hotel is decorated with dedication to Fyodor Dostoyevsky's 'Crime and Punishment' novel, there were citations on the walls and carpets, old books in the lobby, and some other stylish elements everywhere.

All three windows in our room were locked due to winter season, and they were dirty (from outside). The style of room is ..., it is decorated in grey, black and and red color. Ensuite fully equipped bathroom has a wide glass window looking into the room. This window is covered with cloth blind. If you're in the bathroom and wish to look outside - just open the blind. The side effect of this blind is that you can't close it tight, there are many gaps, so the people in the room could easy look into the bathroom with you inside :))

The room is not very big, although it divided into three distinct areas: the lobby (with locker and safe), the sleeping area (with big bed and LCD TV) and working or dining area with two tables, the fridge, and chairs. There is an airconditioning system with control panel at the wall.
There was a bit tricky light controls, including buttons near the bed and the control panel on the wall allowing to select one of predefined modes ('work', 'cozy', 'comfort', 'cleaning').
Also there were two separate tricky lamps which reacts on your movements (this was by design, but we couldn't clearly realize the exact algorhytm). There were plenty of AC outlets, some of them hidden in unexpected places. The very useful fact is that there was an outlet inside the safe.

The tea and coffee was free (there was an Nespresso coffee maker!), but prices for snacks and drinks at minibar were pretty high. There were a number of TV channels: Russian ones showed bad signal quality, others were OK. Be aware of channels 41-43 - these are paid adult channels, but even if you haven't paid for it, you might sometimes see hardcore (yes! hardcore!) scenes while you just browsing through them.

The staff was friendly, but they behave more politely to foreign guests rather than to Russians. For example, they offered free city maps to foreigners, but did not offer any to us.
Be aware of the service: they may try to offer room cleaning twice (if you do not place 'do not disturb'). However, sometimes they do not clean room at all or clean it superficially. You can see dust in the air, dust on the floor, some dirt in the bathroom etc.

The location is central, but be aware that you have to take a bus or trolleybus to get to the Nevsky Prospect or to walk there by your feet for about 15 to 20 minutes. If you would like to go directly to Dvortsovaya Ploschad - it will take you 25 to 35 minutes.

Ive been lucky enough to stay in quite a few hotels around the world recently and without doubt this is the best. This hotel is superb, modern, clean and beautifully planned out and has great TV and free wifi. We had a room on the front looking onto the main road and no noise at all. Its in a great local area 15 minutes walk from the main (overpriced) Neva and there is a metro station 10 minutes walk way. Plenty of bars and restaurants around the vicinity. I can't praise this place enough, loved every minute of it and would go back to St Petersburg just to stay there!

Very cooperative reception and concierge, changed my room on request (business room), supplied me with a laptop, an umbrella, maps and taxis on request.
Breakfast was excellent, and the restaurant as good as they come (10/10)
I figured out the lighting system after three days, lived dimly until then.
4stars? well, my room was 5.
would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Business room on a lower floor

Very interesting design of the hotel! Rooms are quite small (speaking of standard) but very functional, you can find even tea\coffee facilities. Also lighting in the room is very unusual - me and other two my colleagues discussed in the morning our attempts to switch it off=))
Staff is nice and helpful, breakfast is veeery good - the yummiest omelette!!! Also fruits and other staff.
WiFi is very speed, that is importaint for business travelers
Highly recommend!.
