“Best hotel experience in SPB so far”
Reviewed 11 February 2012

Having stayed at a number of St. Petersburg's 5 star hotels, this W is the best so far: great location just after the corner from Nevsky, good restaurant with French cousine (at affordable price), fabulous rooms ( I had a Fantastic suite with view at Isaac Cathedral).

The team of the hotel is young and sometimes lacks 5-star-hotel-experience but it's completely compensated by their willingness to serve the guests in the best way.

Please note if you are staying at the 7th floor it might be loud at night from the music bar in the 8th floor.

The spa area is new and well equipped, but the pool is rather small.

Room Tip: Suites are great.

The brand new W in St.Petersburg is quite smashing if you are into this design heavy brand. The hotel is a new construction in a terrific location a stone's throw from the Hermitage and Nevsky Prospect.

The hotel is beyond comfortable with all the ammenities one has come to expect from a Whotel. iPod docks, big huge towels, fluffy duvets and a dreamy bed with lots of down pillows, Samsung flatscreen tvs, a Bliss Spa, work out room and pool.

They try really hard but there is still a bit of a learning curve to tackle here. Taxis to airport not ordered when requested, wait staff in the restaurant that tells you a simple dish request not listed on the ultra elaborate lunch menu cannot be made (even though all the ingredients for a bowl of pasta with red sauce were listed on the menu in various other forms) with out ever even inquiring with the chef, room service breakfast orders which arrived missing items when there were only 2 items requested and several other kinks that you should not normally see in a super expensive 5 star hotel.

The hotel is new though and getting the staff up to running speed in this country is no easy task. I would happily stay here again and I'm sure by that point it will be 100% perfection !

I always think it's a good idea to give some background to a review. My husband and I are 28 and 37 years old and we love staying in super hotels and eating at great restaurants although can't stand style over substance.

Absolutely loved "W." We were upgraded because it was quiet and staff were friendly and helpful. The room was big, comfortable and stylish. We adored the bar on the top floor and the cocktails were delicious. Also loved chilling out in the Living Room. The concierge was very helpful and got us tickets to the Mariinsky for some wonderful ballet. We had the Panamera to and from the airport and that was great fun.

Other nice little touches: reception staff really helpful and I liked the way they took you through each item on the bill when we checked out because it can be a bit fraught trying to scan to see if everything is right (in many hotels it often isn't!) Lots of complimentary water which was great because we were advised not to drink tap water. Great mood lighting in the rooms! Good sound proofing, very quiet. Overall just really stylish and comfortable.

One big disappointment was the restaurant but I will separate that from this review. We ate on our second night and it really wasn't great at all and incredibly expensive.

Couple of little niggles with the hotel itself: first night had room service, my husband asked for his beef well-done and it came very pink. Also a drink was forgotten. We did have room service again on our last night and that was flawless so perhaps it depends who's on! Handling charge for use of concierge to book tickets was higher than I'd have liked.

Not enough to stop this hotel being 5* though, we had a super time. Great location, great views and real style. Magical.

Room Tip: We didn't have a view (we faced the inside) which I was initially disappointed in, but in fact u...

Decided to go to St. Pete for a weekend. Made a reservation through starwood hotels reservation system, the hotel is nice, good location. Check in was flawless, I requested over the internet a suite with a bacony, apparently the class of the suit that I requested did not have a balcony, so I got upgraded to one with a view and two terraces - very nice and classy touch. Reception desk (they call it "whatever whenever" in the hotel) girls - all giggles and smiles. My friend was coming over from Moscow by plane later in the evening, they send a panamera porsche to pick him up, for a reasonable price, in my opinion. The first night we decided not to go out and watch a movie - the pay-per-view did not work in our room, we asked the reception to get it fixed - they could not handle it and proposed that we move to a nicer room that would have the pay-per-view working. So we found ourselves in the bigger suite, with, surprise, pay-per-view not working. Moved rooms past midnight. The staff was so nice, all we could do was smile...They tried. The rest of the stay went flawlessly. Coming back.

We stayed at W St Petersburg in October 2011 for a long weekend. Overall we were very impressed by this hotel. The location could not have been better, with both the Hermitage and the Isaac Cathedral a 3 minute walk away. There are also several good restaurants close by, as well as bars and shopping malls.

The rooms were quite spacious and nicely decorated (we stayed in the smallest room) and as the hotel is quite new it felt airy and fresh. The hair dryer did not work when we arrived, but it was replaced within ten minutes. The minibar was ok and there was an espressomachine in the room.

We did try the Mix restaurant by Alain Ducasse for dinner - and it was as you might expect - amazing. Excellent food, and fairly priced considering the quality. The lobby bar was sleek with a nice crowd and the drinks were good. The music was fantastic with a live dj. There is also a roof top bar open in the summer.

The Norwegian food and bev manager Andreas provided excellent service and really went above and beyond to make out stay better. The rest of the staff were also very friendly and the concierge was very helpul in making reservations and giving recommendations. We have stayed at many W hotels in Europe and the US, and this hotel has been the best for service so far.

We had a great stay at W St.Petersburg and would happily recommend this hotel to others.
