“Great room and welcoming staff”
Reviewed 8 August 2013

Although my wife and I had been to St Petersburg a few decades ago, we were now returning with our children and really wanted to land at a hotel that would offer a great location and welcoming faces to kick off the adventure, and the W here obliged on both counts. In particular Alisa Ladygina was a bright light at breakfast, while both Maria and Marina (Rogova) in reception offered wonderful suggestions and quick help when the moments called for it (and a very special suprise on my birthday - balloons and treats waiting in our room - very nice touch!). Having an anchor like the super-well-located W made it easy for us to literally walk our shoes into the dust daily as we got to know this amazing and historic Russian port city (massages at the Bliss spa inside the W were a welcome reprive). Our room was modern, spacious and despite its central location, wonderfully quiet. We can't thank them enough for making ours such a memorable family trip.

We arrived very late at night for a 3 night stay. As a Platinum SPG they upgraded us to a great suite and prepared a separate bed for our young children. One of them was celebrating her birthday and they added a bunch of balloons to the room which was a great surprise.

Basic breakfast with pancakes were included which was more than enough. Internet was pretty fast.

Everyone there was ultra nice and the location cannot be beat. Just 5 min walk to the Hermitage.
Next door they are finishing the Four Seasons.

Concierge helped with tickets and we got to see everything we wanted to.

Kids used the indoor hot tub and pool.

Highly recommend if you want great location, modern facility, and great service.

The service was amazing from start to finish, especially from the reception staff. Each member of the staff that we dealt with went out of their way to help me and my wife each time we needed it, including on a medical emergency. They beat our expectations, which are high for a hotel of this standing.

On top of it, the location is perfect: 3 minutes walk from the Hermitage Museum. The roof terrace is very nice and the rooms pretty comfortable!

Unlike many of the other reviewers, we did not have a great experience in this property. Night one, we had to call the service team to our room at midnight in hopes that they could get the air conditioner working - which we did not achieve. This left our room at a stuffy 26.5 degrees Celcius. The staff was able to move us to another room that night, after providing a small fan for us.

Night two, in our new room, we were greeted by the chunking and clunking of both the elevator and the people that were using the elevator all night long. The staff, again, was able to move us to a new room on our third and final night. This room was the best of the three as it was cool and relatively quiet.

Overall, we are not big fans of the style of the W hotels, and in this hotel that drive for style also means that they don't have curtains that black out the White Nights. Overall, this solidified our feel to stay away from hotel W in the future.

Dear TwoOhTravelers,
Thank you very much for your feedback about your recent stay at W St. Petersburg. I’m very sorry to hear that your experience with us was not satisfying and apologize for inconveniences you had during your stay. We are lucky here in St. Petersburg to have unusually hot summer days, which had an impact on our air-conditioning system. We are aware of this issue and all the proper measures are taken to avoid any related accidents in the future. I’m glad we had the opportunity to change your room at night and provided you with additional fan in order to assist you immediately. Regarding missing black out curtains during the white nights – thank you for highlighting this issue. We will take your comment into consideration as it is very important for us to offer the best quality of sleep to our guests. Thank you again for bringing these issues to my attention. We will do our best to make our guests experience with us more comfortable and joyful. Great hotel. Good location with walking distance to all the main city sights. Nice roof terrace to enjoy the white nights in summer. Rooms are good with good beds. Bathrobes and slippers are of good quality. Bathrooms are good. Paid wifi works bad though and is a hassle to connect. They could just improve with free wifi access in the entire hotel and the rooms. 10 euro per bottle of water is also a bit ridiculous but there are small complimentary bottles of water as well. Restaurant and breakfast are good. I would stay here again. I didn't have time to look at the gym so can't comment on that. Staff was very helpful and service oriented.

Room Tip: Some rooms look out into a small inner courtyard. I had a room on the 5th floor looking out over a b...

I would like to thank once again "my" preferred front desk agent Margarita during my stay at the hotel few days ago and I want the hotel's management knows that. Margarita is a very nice, kind and professional person who allowed my friends and I to live in a better way the beautiful city of St. Petersburg. It was a pleasure for us to follow her suggestions: all of them were perfect. Our stay was a pleasure because of the city in general and also because of Margarita.
Perfect location for visiting the city center with no use of taxi or public transportation. Beautiful hotel and superb terrace for a city view at sunset and during blue hour.

Excellent location couple blocks from the Hermitage and next door to St. Issacs. Walking distance to all major sights. Hotel is typical W style, modern lighting, design and furniture. I am not a fan of elevators so dark you can hardly see the numbers much less that the elevator required a swipe from the key card - but that seems to be the trend in hotels now a days. Staff was very helpful. Breakfast expensive but buffet was well done and I appreciated the fresh squeezed grapefruit juice. Room was spacious and bath well appointed. Decent water pressure in the shower. Air conditioning always cut out middle of the night but heat was managable. In short, a good stay here. Lots of great restaurants nearby. Try the Vodka Museum, the indian place on the corner and the Terrace Lounge across the street at the Four Seasons.
