“Nice stay with some minor issues”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

I spent 3 nights here as part of a larger trip throughout Europe. I chose the hotel as I enjoy the W brand and wanted to check out the St. Petersburg version. I'm also a platinum member in the Starwood Hotel program.

I was able to confirm an upgrade to a W suite in advance using a Suite Night award. The room ended up being on the 2nd floor, and was spacious with a separate "living room" from the main bedroom. The bath was quite large as well. The bed was extremely comfortable, as always at W hotels, although the room overlooked a courtyard and was rather small with no view to speak of. The furnishings were fine, although the sofa was not very comfortable for lounging and watching the TV. Speaking of the TV, it randomly turned on and off by itself... so I eventually had to unplug it.

I did not make use of the gym or the pool, although both seemed rather small (as expected for a city hotel). I had breakfast included in my room rate; the breakfast was great by European standards, but didn't necessarily have the same variety as some of the other Ws I've stayed at (Hong Kong, Doha). The roof terrace is beautiful with a great view, although the prices are very high and the menu is uninspiring (burgers, pizza, steak). A steak with fries and one beer was nearly USD $100! And the service wasn't anything special either.

The front desk staff was very friendly and did their best to please. With that said, there were a couple of minor annoyances. The hotel adds a "registration fee" to all bills, which I understand is mandatory in Russia, but they don't mention this when you check in. Also, I had my laundry done one day and there was a minor issue. The reception called and made a rather large deal about it (in my opinion it was fine), and then promised to "make it up" per their words... yet no gesture ever came. The intent was there to please, but no follow through. I also had an incident where one of the hotel staff came into the room without even knocking. Apparently they were there to check the minibar... but it was annoying and it was in the evening around 6pm when I would assume its normal for the guest to be at the room.

All in all this was a pretty good stay. It's a bit quieter of a W than some of the others I've been to, but the service was pretty good and the room was comfortable. The location is perfect as you can walk to most of the major sites and there are some good restaurants nearby. All things considered I would probably stay here on another trip to St. Petersburg.

The hotel is centrally located, just around the corner from St. Isaac's Cathedral. The rooms are luxurious and modern. Great bathroom and lots of plush towels. There is a great lounge on the main floor with great seating and free wi-fi. The Bliss Spa has a great pool and nice locker room facilities. The staff was friendly and helpful and everyone spoke English. Nice bar on the roof with great views of the city. Well worth the money!

It's not cheap, greatly located, very friendly staff, good restaurant and bar on the terrace.
It's worth the money and here you can find staff properly trained and very high quality already at young age.
Definitely a place to come back for a next stay. The rooms are not very big but nicely decorated and bathroom is of good quality.

Spb is one of my favourite cities in the world. some weeks ago went to visit my friends there. the hotel has a great position right in front of Isaac Catheadral, which is just splandid!!! it has a restaurant on the ground floor with dirty(dusty) plates and very bad russian wine. though the look is really beautiful, the waitress was kind and fair. the room is fashion, design, small balcony with the view on catheadral. terrazza is pretty wide, still with the same view and a bit more.... almost 240 degrees. lovely live music, quick waiters, good spritz and aperetivo... i am very satisfied)

This is a wonderful hotel for exploring the historical sites of St. Petersburg. Centrally located, next to St. Isaac's Cathedral, the Admiralty and the Winter Palace and Hermitage Museum - and close to Nevsky Prospect, St. Petersburg's main avenue. The rooftop terrace offers stunning views of St. Isaac's and good views of the historic city center. The beds are extraordinarily comfortable, the bathrooms are large and well appointed, and the hotel staff are friendly and helpful. I found the room decor to be weird - and even a tad tacky - but the lobby was tasteful. In-room Wi-Fi costs extra, which is frustrating for a relatively expensive boutique hotel. Overall, though, we loved this hotel and would recommend it to others.

The W in St. Petersburg is certainly a place to come back to - it's in an amazing location and sitting on the roof terrace overlooking the city roofs is just breathtaking. The service and friendliness of the staff are extraordinary and I guess what you expect from a W hotel. Even the basic rooms are spacious and bright, even though some of them look across a yard onto a brick wall. The spa is also excellent with seemingly very well trained therapists. This is a great place to stay both for business and leisure.
