“A horrendous lack of customer service!!!!”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

We are a group of 9 staying at this hotel for 4 days on our first trip to Russia. 4 of us are Marriott Rewards Gold members. Arrived last night and everyone was very accommodating. Today we took the hotel shuttle to downtown with no problem. While waiting for the return shuttle we had 5 who had a problem with a restaurant bill, so 4 went to meet the shuttle bus. We were rudely advised by the driver that we had 4 minutes until he left although our watches indicated that we had 6 minutes until the scheduled departure time. Exactly 4 minutes later the driver started to leave. When we asked him to wait, he simply said NO and continued to drive. 30 seconds later we saw our companions and asked the driver again to stop. Again he simply said NO and continued to drive, leaving our companions to find their way home without any hotel or Russian language information. They ended up paying a taxi driver an exorbitant amount of money and arrived at the hotel several hours later, needless to say ready to leave the hotel and the country. We talked to front desk personnel and do not know if they understood or cared. We will discuss this with the manager tomorrow and let you know if here is a satisfactory resolution to this event. By the way, we are all seasoned travelers who have traveled the world, but have never had an American hotel treat us in this manner.

. This hotel was chosen because of its close location to the Grand Choral Synagogue. Less than 1/2 mile.
Unfortunately, not a Great Russian experience. As you drove up to the hotel It looked identical to a US Marriott courtyard. The inside looked like a typical US courtyard, disappointing.
In my opinion the hotel is a 3 star. Nothing warm or cozy about this property.
The restaurant was marginal, breakfast was just ok. Rooms were clean but lacked any personal style. There was so much noise in the halls it was difficult to sleep. If you are booking this hotel because of the value but want to tour St Petersburg or spend time in the City center you may want to rethink because it is not within waking distance to major sites and cabs are super expensive. A cab ride from the Hermitage to the hotel cost me about $30.00. On the positive side you are within walking distance to the Marinsky Theater and there is a possibility to purchase tickets in the box office for the ballet or opera. choose wisely. look at the Petro Palace hotel , basic nothing fancy but a wonderful location.

Room Tip: Ask for a room far away from the banquet area.

This hotel is at then end of a street in the middle of a residential neighborhood that you should not explore. I thought I had read that the hotel had a service that will take you into town. They do not. When we arrived in St. Petersburg our taxi took us to the other Marriott by mistake and we were greeted with champagne. Do not expect that at the Pushkin. Location aside, this was a nice hotel. Staff was professional and pleasant. There are two restaurants, one is Bavarian (go figure!) and I really did not enjoy my lunch here. The other restaurant is a lovely room, linen tablecloths, great little bar and the better of the two. Breakfast provides you with a big selection and will satisfy just about everybody. When you book your room you can get a special rate that includes breakfast. I used my rewards to pay for my room and the additional cost for the breakfast was high. Of course, everything in Russia is high. There is a small "bank" in the lobby that allows you to exchange money. Get small bills if you can because nobody wants to give you change for larger bills. There are also two ATM's. You will find that all ATMs have English as an optional language and it easy to negotiate through your transaction. Our room faced the front of the hotel and there was absolutely no view. The beds were fine and everything about the room was Marriott quality. I would not stay at this hotel again because I would like to be located in an area that is safe to walk and fun to explore.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a view, if there is one.

We stayed at this hotel for five nights. Quite typically a 'Courtyard Marriott' it's basically a no frills place, but very comfortable. The rooms are warm and cosy, neat and impeccably kept. The hotel is in a quiet cul-d-sac, its rear entrance opening to the Griboedova Canal. There are a couple of small supermarkets nearby that take care of any essentials one might need. It's a bit away from the city centre, but the hotel's complimentary shuttle service is available at specific timings. Breakfast fare is good . Among its in-house restaurants, the Bierstube is a great informal dining area that serves reasonably good food. The front office staff are as helpful as they can be, keeping in mind that it takes some effort for both parties to get a conversation in English going.

Room Tip: The higher floor rooms are sunnier.

The Courtyard is located 15-20 minutes by taxi from the city centre, which makes it inconvenient if your objective is to tour the major sights of St Petersburg, which are in the centre of the city. The hotel provides a complimentary shuttle bus service at hourly intervals which helps to get to the major sights. The hotel room is comfortable for a 3-4 star hotel and clean. The food at the main restaurant and hotel buffet is just OK, but the German bar is more lively and good for a bar meal and beer. For non-Russian speakers, there are virtually no other eating options within walking distance from the hotel. If I was to return to St Petersburg to explore the sights, I will choose a more centrally located hotel.

I would definitely say that the staff were anything but rude. One young receptionist was more nervous of making mistakes because she has only been there for a month. But the number of pieces of paper involved in making one transaction I could perfectly understand that! I think maybe the Russian way is not to smile much but the Reception/ Transport Desk staff were pleasant and helpful by booking taxis for us. If you are a party of five though they will want to try and book you in to two taxis. If you want to travel together you will need a mini van. However the price we were charged for a transfer to the river port was well over the odds. Hopefully you will have nerves of steel as some taxi drivers drive like complete lunatics! Agreed the hotel is in a slightly odd location but there is a free shuttle bus that will take you in to the city centre and return you to the hotel.
The rooms themselves are clean, comfortable and of a good size and considering the city centre location it is indeed quiet. Choice at breakfast is extensive and plentiful. The staff in the Bierstube (located within the hotel but not actually part of it, as far as we could understand) were also pleasant and friendly. Food here and the price of breakfast were inflated, but that is the nature of a city centre hotel. The Bierstube serves good food and the portions are large.
We all found the hotel to be comfortable and should we return to St Petersburg I am sure we would stay again

It's a good value for money hotel, comfortable rooms, nice decor, generous breakfast - blinis with caviar as part of the baffet would make your day! Very nice staff, I didn't experience any rude behaviour, very helpful and polite. Well, they are very young, and perhaps sometimes too stressed but they are doing their best.
Location is very special and should be considered carefully before booking this hotel. It is in the center but almost on the island surrounded by water. You cannot walk to the main sightseeing destinations and even metro station is not that close. So you should be prepared for taxi or choose other options closer to Nevsky. But on the other hand you will be rewarded with very good sleep quality - it is very quite neighbourhood and I slept with my windows open to the small green square. You will not have this in other hotels.
