“Small average hotel, clean in good location”
Reviewed 22 April 2014 via mobile

This is a little charmless basic hotel, very clean and in a good location. It looks like an apartment made in to several rooms. Rooms face in to a ugly courtyard, no view. Breakfast is ok and is served in your room, as there is no breakfast room. They tried to charge us twice for the registration fee, but I believe it was a misunderstanding. Ladies at the reception are helpful and polite.

If you are looking for plush accomodation & large rooms this hotel is not for you. In fact, you probably wouldn't step past the front door, which is not the most attractive entrance to a hotel I've ever stayed at. However, once you go up the stairs & enter the hotel proper it is very smart & clean. As I suggested the rooms are not large, but ours was clean & comfortable, not much of a view though. You order what you want for breakfast off the limited menu & it is brought to your room. A little unconventional, but it works, & you can put together a fairly substantial meal to set you up for the day.
The big pluses for this hotel, though, are the location, the staff & the price. It would be difficult to find a better location. You are a pleasant 15 minute walk from the Hermitage Palace, & within easy walking distance of all of the city's central attractions. There are also a number of decent restaurants nearby. Our favourite was Teplo, a 10 minute walk away.
The nearest metro stop is about 20 minutes walk. A bit of a hassle if you are arriving with luggage. The hotel staff will arrange a taxi for you if you prefer. We needed to get to Finlandsky Station to catch an early morning train to Helsinki & that only cost 400 roubles.
I would use this hotel again.

We stayed at this hotel November last year. First thing has to be said about this hotel is the location. It is just a few minutes walk from the bronze horseman and within easy walking distance of most of the attractions in central Petersburg. The hotel is in a quiet side street that is a very pleasant area indeed. When we arrived, We were given a larger room free of charge - very nice after arriving at midnight from Moscow. The staff were friendly, attentive and although there is no buffet for the breakfast (this is a small hotel), we found it more than adequate for the day. The room was very large with more than enough space and it was also very clean.

Overall, we had a great experience at Grand Mark and when travelling to St. Petersburg again, we will definitely be returning here. We were lucky because we we were given a mini-suite but I would probably book the same room in the future.

We spent 2 nights at the Grand Mark and thoroughly enjoyed it. Don't be put off by the less-than-salubrious entrance hall - once you're inside the hotel itself it's immaculate and very welcoming. Our room had a huge bathroom and was very comfortable. The staff were accommodating and spoke good English. The location is superb, only 10 mins walk from the Hermitage and 5 from St Isaacs. Highly recommended.

We have just returned from 5 nights at the Grand Mark Hotel. From the original emails for info about the hotel, requests for taxis to meet us at the airport etc, nothing was too much trouble for the staff and once we arrived we were not disappointed. The staff tried to help and assist with any questions. The area appears to be having work to near by buildings - but not a problem. It felt safe to wander round at night and the bed room was always lovely and warm even when it was snowing and cold outside. Infact we had to turn the heating down!!!!
All the major sites are within easy walking distance. Breakfast in your room was adequate for the day ahead. Tea and coffee in the room and bottles of water replenished every day.
Once you enter the building follow the signs and once you get of the lift, ring the bell and you are in the hotel.

We went on to stay in an expensive hotel in Moscow and the service was very poor when compared to the service we received at the Grand Mark.

We hope to return to St Petersburg, when the river is not frozen and we can get to see more of the fairy tale city.

Room Tip: We had room six which was one of the smaller rooms, but had a massive bathroom with a bath, which wa...

excellent location, great staff -very helpful and kind, they bring you breakfast to your room if you dont turn up, the room was nice and clean, free coffee, tea and water, towels changed every day (despite the need), maybe little cold-ish but the room had an electric heater that worked quickly and well....well worth the location, value and service !!!!

Great value for the price paid. This isn't the Four Seasons hotel--so if you are looking for something with a grand entrance and an expensive lobby, keep looking.

The first impression of the building is that you are in a bit of a quiet dark alley. But the reality is you are in the middle of the government building and you feel very comfortable walking to and from the hotel at night. As others have noted, about 10-15 minutes to the metro, and 10 minute walk to the Hermitage. MANY great restaurants within a short walk to the hotel.

Staff were amazing: left a bottle of sparkling wine for my birthday; helped with reservations and logistics. Breakfast was simple and filling. Rooms were comfortable and quiet.

There are other hotels through the same door--so follow the signs to the second floor.

Room Tip: You don't really get to pick the room unless you upgrade to superior rooms--then you will get on...
