“Red Stars Hotel just perfect....”
Reviewed 13 November 2013

It was my first time in St. Petersburg. And when looking for the hotel we were trying to find something not very expensive but comfortbale and more or less good located. Red Stars was just beyond our expectation. First of all the decoration is very unsuall and even for us who always prefer classic style, the street hi-tech style of this hotel was very comfy as its made very proffesional. The rooms are not big but very good organised. I would like to notice the bathroom...all the equipment in a very good condition and the quality is very high.
Specially, I would like to mention the people working in the hotel, everyone we were dealing with were very proffesional in its spehere and always ready to help you. After two weeks spending there it was so pity to leave this nice and charming place...Hope to return to St. Petersburg in the nearest time and defenetly stay in just perfect...Red Stars Hotel.

I stayed 5 nights at the hotel this week. It's very modern, spotlessly clean & spacious bathroom, friendly staff.
The hotel is only 10' walk from Mariinsky theatre, which was very convenient for us since we went to the ballet one night and another one to the opera.
One block from the hotel there's a bus stop where frequent buses take you directly to Nevsky Prospekt in only 15' for 25 rublos each.
Good price for the facilities. I'd definitely stay there again :)

Positive experience. Friendly staff at the front desk. Clean fairly spacious room. Clean modern bathroom. Safe deposit box and fridge in the room. Takes 20-25 minutes to walk to the main attractions of St Petersburg, but it is a pleasant walk along the canals. Good price compared to what hotels charge in the touristy area of St Pete. I would recommend to those who do not mind walking a short distance. Hard to distinguish entrace to lobby, not a single entry sign at/by the door.

I only had a few hours at the hotel, bit it was very nice. I arrived too early for a check-in (around 10:00 am). The lady at the desk did offer an early check in at 50% the nightly room rate. I was not interested in that since I had a guide picking me up. They put my luggage in the luggage room while I waited. The bar area is a comfortable place to wait. Extremely clean bathrooms!
When I returned from the tour, the key was waiting for me. The room was large and comfortable. Wonderful shower in the bathroom, which was also quite large (with heated floors). All was very clean. The bed was very comfortable as well. I had a 3:00 am pickup, so the desk prepared a 'breakfast' to go when I checked out. It consisted of 2 sandwiches, an apple, a yogurt cup and juice box. Fast and efficient service.
There is a pharmacy right around the corner, but a bit of a walk to an ATM. They said 5 minutes, more like 10 if you aren't rushing. Marinsky Theater is about a 25 to 30 minute walk (at least for me).
When you first see the hotel, you will wonder if you have made a mistake. It is much nicer once you get to your room.
It is only close to things if you know how to get to the places. Since I didn't need to worry about that, it was fine. If I was on my own (without a guide) as a tourist, I would suggest you stay some place close to where you are wanting to visit. Trying to figure out the street signs (all are in Russian) is pretty difficult.

Location of this hotel has great advantages for those who love music and theater - it is few blocks away from both Mariinsky theaters and Mariinsky concert hall. However, if your trip is designed to visit main sightseeing centers such as Hermitage, Russian museum, Nevsky Prospekt, etc, then you would have to spend certain time of walking which anyway is never unpleasant in such beautiful city. I stayed in this hotel several times already and I can recommend it especially for summer. During winter, the heating is so strong, including floor heating on the bathroom, that air gets incredibly dry and permanent sensation of thirst is present. They could perhaps use some humidifiers because feeling of sore throat, especially in the morning, is not the most comfortable one.
Other than that, hotel has excellent internet, contemporary creative interiors, spacious bathroom and helpful staff. Don't get discouraged by outer look (from the street, hotel looks in the worst traditions of cheaply renovated historical building, by demolishing almost everything history has to deal with, and replacing it with ugly plastic). But designers made much better work inside.

Red Stars Hotel is a sleek, contemporary hotel with a modern decor. Never mind about its metallic red surfaces. After all, the hotel is named "Red." That I can get used to. But the one that caught my attention is the graffiti themed hallway. Personally, it brings back bad memories from the 'hood. Our room is spotless, however, and I particularly appreciate the heated bathroom floor especially in the morning. The best asset of the hotel is its English-speaking staff: friendly, courteous and very helpful. They answered all our mundane queries with a smile when they could have told us to read the extremely detailed hotel directory in our room. Kudos to the staff.

The bus stop is conveniently located around the corner. Nevskiy Prospekt is approximately 30 minutes by Bus # 22; the fare is 25 rubles.

Overall, St. Petersburg is a great city and so is Red Stars with its terrific staff!
