We were looking for it, and thanks to group of people throwing money over the bridge we found it :)
This is pure hidden gem and not the only statue where people are throwing coins to make a wish and to hope that coin will stay next to the statue.

A tiny metal statue of a bird on the wall side by a bridge, pointed out by guides when on canal boat rides. Try to drop a coin on its plinth for good luck. I imagine local diver will reap the benefits of failed attempts

Went on a boat trip and was telling my husband that this little bird is up near the area that we are in on the boat, near the St Michaels Palace near the Summer Gardens and to look out for this little metal bird. That there was a story to it about Lost Love with students and to look out for it, when suddenly I seen it and jumped up on the boat exclaiming there it is and tried to get a photo. Everyone must have though I was mad. Anyway I managed just to get an ok photo. But that evening we went to a Gypsy Restaurant and when the taxi dropped us off I noticed that we were again just across from the wee thing so walked over the bridge to see it better and take better photos. Brilliant finding it!

We tried to drop some pennies onto the plinth but were unsuccessful but shared the pleasure of watching other people succeed

Here, in the very center of St Petersburg, on the Fontanka River Embankment is situated this rather hard to find small statue of one siskin
or finch. Just behind the Mikhailovsky Castle and below the Summer Garden, near the Pantelejmonov Bridge or as it is called the Engineer Bridge, You can, if lucky, find this only 11 cm high statue of very tiny songbird, to which is connected story about the students from sometimes in the vicinity existing the Imperial Legal Academy. These students in those long passed times, had wore green and yellow uniforms, very much alike to the colors of the feathers of the siskins.
And after their very frequent visits to the nearby hostelries where they had taken some glasses of vodka, the folk - song about Chizhik - Pyzhik was made.
Some tradition have remained until nowadays, which says that one who manages to toss the coin on the ledge of the statue, without falling into the water, can count on some certain luck.
Always some numbers of curious passers can be seen here on the embankment and bridge, in the want to try their dexterity in throwing the coins on the Statue of Chizhik- Pyzhik.
