I am not a museum person.
But surely a long long trip to St Petersburg begs a visit to here.
Many artifacts, though I was interested in the architecture.

This is a massive museum, with a massive collection. I went as part of a larger tour, so only had limited time, but hope to return to see more in the future! In addition to a mammoth collection, the palace itself also has an interesting history!

Huge museum and many interesting things to see but alas it is dawn down by the numbers of people inside. As there are many peoples in and out and its really hot inside - its kinda hard to really enjoy the museum. Still - its a good visit...

Obviously a very impressive collection but totally ruined and over-run by ignorant cruise ship groups. A lot of them intent on getting a selfie infront of the masterpieces, often ignoring barriers and touching the works! Honestly if you’re interested in selfies, don’t bother going to the museum so less ignorant people can enjoy it more. If you have the time frame definitely go on a late afternoon when they have late opening and miss the crowds.

It is undoubtedly the best attraction of St. Petersburg, a complex of five historic interconnected buildings housing some of the world's best art collection. With hundreds of rooms filled with amazing art, it is impossible to cover all. So if you are short of time choose the things you want to see beforehand. The first building is the Winter Palace with the grand staircase, breathtaking beautiful rooms and chandeliers. The Peacock clock in the Pavilion hall is a must see. Since it is on every one's to do list there are really long queues to the ticket counter whatever be the time of the day. We had to wait for over two hours to get in. There are two lines on either side of the inner courtyard, don't just see a line and join in.. peep into the Courtyard, the other line may be smaller as we found out because not many knew about it. They let people go inside in batches so the wait is long but really worth. You can buy the full ticket for 700Rub or in parts as per your time limit like the ticket to the Winter Palace is 250Rub. Every first Thursday is free entry for all but you have to stand in queue to get in.
