Location superbe; restaurant very good; staff who mattered all spoke good english; Wi-Fi only in the lobby was a bore and should these days be included in the room; English TV channels limited, but at least you could see some (remember that much of what is broadcast is under strict control in Russia); breakfast was excellent and included in the room price; but the spa was unimpressive and the swimming pool hardly merited the title - and you had to pay what seemed an extortionate amount extra to use it!.

The long march to the room from the lift area was uninspiring - and when I tried to use the stairs from the spa to my room just one floor below and a few paces away rather than use the lift which required a "five minute" hike I was virtually arrested by the local KGB agent!

All in all a comfortable and good value hotel in what is an extremely expensive city.

Room Tip: Don't know - it would have been helpful to know beforehand where we were situated.

You could not ask for a better location to be near the center of sights and activities in St. Petersburg. The hotel could stand some updating as the halls and carpets are dark and drab. The standard rooms are well proportioned and the bathroom adequate. The breakfast buffet was good and the service was friendly. A problem with the air conditioning for our room was never resolved. After the second request we were told by a person at the reception desk to just open the window. This lack of concern coupled with the fact that our room was warm influenced our overall opinion of the hotel. The hotel caters to tour groups and the small reception and common areas were overcrowded and confusing at best.

Room Tip: Ask to see the room you have been assigned to be sure air conditioning and other mechanical items ar...

The location and ambiance of this hotel is great. The food was great too. For the money though, you would think they could offer potable water in the rooms. They don't. If you want drinking water, they will give you 2 bottles of water per day but they are real stingy on that and if you as for more, they will tell you no unless you press them. They have free Wi-Fi but only in the lobby. Therefore, there are tons of people hanging out in the lobby all the time. Why not offer it free in the rooms as well?

The hotel is probably one of most old but still fascinating, should be renovating but anyway my experience Is good. The Rooms are good, the breakfast very good but don't forget to reserved the bundle room+breakfast because you can have surprise with the expensive options prices.
The wifi is fast and free but only in the lobby, no in the room......and need to refresh each hour.
The SPA don't exist, is very little and not interesting, same the swimming pool.

Old world elegance in this hotel. It is very large and takes a bit of time to get to your room. Room was very nice and some rooms have a view of the cathedral. Great location. Can walk to alot of the major attractions and many good restaurants and bistros nearby.
Stay here if you visit St. Petersburg!
Stayed here as part of a tour so I cannot commet on price of rooms.

Room Tip: ask for a view of the cathedral.

We stayed here as part of a group visit to St Petersburg. The rooms were a bit corporate (nothing wrong with that) quite large, very clean with a comfortable bed. Fortunately, I'd taken account of TA reports which stated that there were only 2 soap dispensers in the bathroom so I provided my own soap and toiletries - not even shampoo or bath oil - come on Angleterre! Our room was at the back overlooking the courtyard which was fine. When you're on a busy tour the last thing you want is to be disturbed by street noises, and our room was blissfully quiet - also cool as the weather was very hot. Breakfasts were plentiful from the well stocked buffet but rarely above tepid. Our main gripe was the food provided in the 3 dinners we endured there. All bland and unimaginative. Also, the service at dinner was dire - as soon as you finished one course it was whipped away and the next course put out - despite the fact that the other diners on the table hadn't finished. It felt as thought they were trying to get rid of us as quickly as possible. Elsewhere, in reception and in the bar staff were friendly and helpful. As others have commented, the location couldn't be bettered - all the iconic sites within easy walking distance.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back overlooking the courtyard are quieter and generally cheaper

We stayed here for 4 nights, and found it to be a very enjoyable stay. The beds were comfortable, air con kept the room cool, and the view was amazing. Very convenient location as an easy walk to lots of the main sights, restaurants and theatres. Complementary bottled water by the bed was replaced each day. Breakfast was tasty, with lots to choose from. Didn't think the swimming pool looked very inviting unfortunately, but otherwise good facilities. Staff were very helpful too.

Room Tip: There are two with balconies overlooking the cathedral - amazing view.
