Well situated next to St Isaacs Cathedral, this is old style elegance with a price to match. Rooms are comfortable, decor is pleasant and service is good. Breakfast selection is very good. The internet costs are too high though.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking some of your valuable time to write a review of our hotel. I am sorry you found internet charges too high, please know that internet use in the Business Centre is complimentary and we are looking into the issue of in-room charges. However I am glad to read that you enjoyed the hotel’s location, rooms, décor, breakfast and most importantly service. We are looking forward to welcome you back soon.

Kindest regards,
General Manager

You will live with your neighbours, thanks to the absence of noise isolation in the walls and floors; also the climatisation system allows you to communicate directly with all the rooms of your floor. My neighbours were indians, so I had a flavor of India all nights long during my trip in St Petersburg. A unique experience, that I will never renew.

Dear Guest,

I am very sorry to read that you had such an unpleasant experience in our hotel, solely due to noise issues. This is a historic property and unfortunately works to improve sound insulation are regulated by the government. While some guests have raised this issue in the past, in general it is not a frequent complaint and we have never been notified of a situation as serious as you have experienced - therefore I apologise that it had such an impact on your stay. If there is anything more we can do please get in touch. However you did rate location, rooms, cleanliness and service 5/5 for which I am glad, and should you visit St. Petersburg in the future we hope to welcome you back, there we will be glad to alocate you a room as quiet as possible.

Kindest regards,
General Manager

Well placed near St Isaac's Cathedral, this hotel has a charming old world ambiance, pleasant décor and very comfortable beds. Breakfasts were good but cooked options were on the small side and we had some communication issues with the wait staff. Our room faced the City Hall and it was good to be able to open the window. Reception and dining room staff could have been more friendly and reception staff could have been more consistent in the information offered as this was on occasion contradictory. It would be nice if one didn't have to smell cigarette smoke all around the hotel.

Room Tip: Get a view of St Isaac's or if not try for a view of City Hall.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of the Hotel Astoria. It fulfills me with pleasure that you appreciated our location, décor and beds. I apologise that sometimes information provided from waiter as well as from reception was contradictory and I will ensure that staff communicate more regularly to prevent this from happening in the future. Regarding smoking in the hotel, so far there is no law restricting the smoking in public areas in Russia. I hope the mentioned inconveniences do not negatively influence your Hotel decision while visiting St. Petersburg again. I would be very glad to welcoming you back soon.

Kindest regards,
General Manager

Astoria is my favorite hotel. It still makes you feel like in Russia, not like in business trip somewhere in USA. Servicing ladies and not 25-years shiny-smiling girls, but felt like your mother or nanny. Concierge service will do their best even in the night to help you, even break their own rules. Interiors still keep the feeling of the old building and everything plays to highlight the same – flaxen things in the room, old-style furniture, etc. At the same time everything is very well equipped and working properly. I like Astoria’s climate system most of all – it is not heard at all.
2 comments to the hotel:
1) I think that is wrong approach to take RUR 800 for the internet. That is a cost of 2 months of home internet in Russia;
2) Complimentary water contained red dregs – very unpleasant, please recheck your supplier asap.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your kind review of our hotel. It especially makes me happy to read that you felt it was a truly Russian experience, as it is a brand standard of Rocco Forte Hotels that each property should reflect its location. I am glad that you enjoyed the décor and amenities also. Regarding the internet charges please be aware that it is an ongoing issue which we are trying to find the best solution for. As for the residue in your water, this is the first alert we have had, for which I apologise. I will be sure to look into it. These issues aside, I am flattered that you rate us as your favorite hotel and it would be our pleasure to have you stay with us again.

Kindest regards,
General Manager

Tripadvisor rates this as number 19 in St. Petersburg. For sure this has to be in the top10 league.
This is part of the Rocco Forte chain. For those of you who are not into the hotelier biz Rocco is not an italian porn star nor is it an italian hotel chain. The owner actually is a british lord....as strange the name my be.

This is a good hotel with all the little touches of an elegant 5 star. Its overpriced for sure. The rooms are very nice and the bathrooms are also perfect. The hotel has no pool and just a tiny little gym.

The breakfast is 40EUR!!!! which is crazy but the quality is good.

There are free apples at the front desk :)

My stay at the Astoria was excellent in all aspects. We have been upgraded to a suite which was new renovated, very clean and elegant creating a wonderful atmosphere. The staff overall was professional and helpful at any time, showing a European standard. Having breakfast in the restaurant Davidov is a delight as you can see the St. Isaaks Cathedral from there. The selection of the buffet fulfils all desires. The spa on the seventh floor is rather small but nicely decorated. The massage I ordered were one of the best I ever had. Further is the location of the Astoria perfect for walking tours to the major sights of the city. Every evening we came back from our tours and went to the bar which opens 24 hours. The service there was always professional and friendly. I would recommend the Astoria at any time, great place of history.
