Owner description: Built to memorialize Alexander II following his assassination in 1881, this magnificent church with Italian pink marble floors and numerous mosaics was modeled after 16th and 17th century churches, contrasting sharply with the prevailing architectural styles.

“Amazing mosaics”
Reviewed 9 April 2012

We liked that there were just enough to keep our interest. The craftsmanship was exemplary. No restrooms inside. Entrance just to right of the ticket booth - we walked left. Look to the ceiling - imagine having to work that high. Too bad we couldn't get closer to them.

“Beautiful shapes and colors”
Reviewed 8 April 2012

Although I did not visit the church, I had the possibility to admire it during the day and during the night. Its colors are brilliant and shapes unusual.

It is easy to reach and conveniently located.

Next to it there is a souvenir fair.. the only place where I found Russians speaking ENGLISH!

“Not to be missed Cathedral - inside and out”
Reviewed 7 April 2012

This is a not to be missed cathedral where the inside is just as spectacular as the outside. The cathedral has recently been restored and is a delight to see. The entire inside of the cathedral is covered in the most amazing mosaics. The staff inside were very courteous – even though we had no common language, they were happy to take you by the elbow and point out a few things they thought you might be missing. This cathedral is on par with those in Western Europe.
