Really nice place, more beautiful than the pictures of it that you see online. Interesting story of it's history.

“Church of spilled blood”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

Our first visit to both Moscow and St Petersburg. Great experience. The church of our Saviour of spilled blood is a must on any visit to St Petersburg. Easy to find from the centre main areas. First impressions from outside, that it was a unique building experience. Wonderful architecture, both inside and out. They do allow photographs, however no digital tourist camera could do the inner dome or other features justice. We completed the visit on our own throughout Russia. Fortunately we arrived at this church and managed to listen in to an American guide. We then had plenty of time after they left to see all for ourselves. You can get an English speaking guide to help. This is also not far from the Hermitage , also well worth a visit, best to allow a full day for both. Very impressive church building.

“Awsome. Amazing. Do not miss it.”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

I am somewhat surprised that this is the number one top-rated attraction in St. Petersburg, when the Hermitage Museum in the Winter Palace of the Czars is also located here (and that rates only number 4!), but, having said that, I am not at all surprised that this attraction is so popular! Stunningly beautiful both outside and in, from a distance and from up close, this is an absolute must-see sight in St. Petersburg. And, it's a lot easier to get into and through than the massive Hermitage. Built in the early 20th century to commemorate the spot where the beloved Czar Alexander II was assassinated by disgruntled right-wing conservatives who did not like the fact he had freed the serfs, it is 20th century but looks medieval. In fact, from the outside, it looks incredibly much like St. Basil's Cathedral in Red Square, Moscow. However, that church was built starting in the 12th or 13th century (or something like that), so it is much, much, much older and different than this one in St. Petersburg. Both are must-see sights.

“A must see!”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

This is a beautiful church. From the outside it has the iconic"onion"domes found in this part of the world. Once inside be sure to check out the ceiling and what is painted inside the domes. It's best to get a guide or at least some literature that explains what you are seeing inside the church. There is a lot of history present. Also check out the floor, the walls and alter speak for themselves.

“Brilliant Architecture..”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

Love the domes in Russia, this was just another beautiful piece of architecture that I managed to get on my camera, definitely one of the prized buildings in St Petersburg.
