This is an elegant hotel with an exceptionally friendly staff. Our standard room was very quiet and beautiful. It had no view, but that was no problem. The room was beautiful, the halls and shopping areas were beautiful, and all you have to do is step outside and walk to the left for less than a block to enjoy pretty Puskin Square with the wonderful Russian Museum (great Russian art not to be enjoyed anywhere else we've gone) right next to it. It's an easy, short walk to the wonderful Church of the Spilled Blood and a short walk to the wonderful Hermitage down busy Nevsky Prospekt. We found all of the people we met in St. Petersburg to be very friendly. We enjoyed a good Italian meal at the hotel's Rossi, but it was spoiled at the end by a large table of smokers. We were told that the only non-smoking hotel restaurant is L'Europe, their most expensive restaurant. We ate very good salads, bread and soup two times at the pretty Mezzanine Cafe; if you're a non-smoker like us, you have to enter to smell the air, since there are only 2 non-smoking tables. We never smelled smoke in our hallway, so I believe were in a special non-smoking floor. We happily used room service for most of our meals. The prices are all over the map, so it was interesting to figure out how much each item cost. (This was our splurge hotel on the trip. If money is no object for you, enjoy the fabulous breakfast buffet and all of the wonderful and interesting restaurants on site. We also saved a lot of money by arriving before May 1, when room prices are much more expensive.) We found the morning porridge to be the best hot cereal we've ever had and not expensive. You can spend thousands of dollars on a bottle of bourbon, but you only have to pay about $20 for a very good pizza that feeds 2 very well, along with a wonderful and reasonably priced dinner salad. My husband enjoyed the gym every morning. I couldn't get the mouse to work in the business center, but the always friendly concierge happily retrieved my flight information for me. The hotel has a fleet of BMW's to take you anywhere, but you can save money if you want by just requesting a taxi a half-hour before you need it. We're glad we stayed here. It was definitely one of the prettiest sights in St. Petersburg.

Thank you Elizabeth for such a vivid and descriptive review! We appreciate it a lot and we liked it very much. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the smoking neighbor table at Rossi’s and this situation. Unfortunately, Russia still remains a smoking country. The debate here continues to rage between smokers and non-smokers, with public zones such as restaurants often caught in the middle. Public opinion in Russia is evolving, and we do our best to reduce smoking areas step by step and hope the tendency changes to the smoke-free someday. We are looking forward for your next visit to St Petersburg and we’ll be glad to see you in the Grand Hotel Europe again.

I have stayed in many palaces all over the world but the Hotel de l'Europe is most special. The service is wonderful and the location unbeatable. Looking at the Church of the Spilled Blood from my window first thing in the morning and then at night made my day. The hotel is very beautiful and elegant without being stuffy. We had a very large Deluxe room which was fine for the two of us plus our teenage son. We toured the Historic rooms on our last day and they are wonderfully furnished suites. Their only flaw is that they are on a low floor and dont enjoy the gorgeous view I had from room 406. I will definitely stay at the Hotel de l'Europe on my next visit to St-Petersburg.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a view of the Arts Square.

There are very few hotels where i can not fault something but everything at the Grand Europe has been thought of to make a truly relaxing and memorable stay. The breakfast is just breath taking , the mezzanine coffee/tea area is perfect for an afternoon break. The rooms are so well equipped and quiet , staff are very well trained and attentive to individuals needs.
Can not recommend enough.

On our first trip to Russia, we booked a historic classic room at the Europe Grand were we stayed for 4 nights. Historic rooms are located just on the first floor and are characterized by a luxurious and classical 19th century style which we loved very much. By the way this type of accommodation includes the service of a butler who will act as personal link to the hotel services and assist you for your needs. Given we tend to be quite self-sufficient (and were there for leisure) we definitively under-used the services offered by the hotel. Our room proved very quiet even during a couple of eventful evenings during which parties took place so we slept wonderfully . The breakfast buffet is truly a chef d'oeuvre with an overwhelming variety of proposals for virtually any taste served by friendly and efficient staff. Take your time to visit the shops and give a glance to the small russian lacquer art store located on the first floor and its gems. Top address, wonderful stay.

I recently stayed at the Grand Hotel Europe for 5 days while touring Russia for leisure. It was the best Hotel stay of my life. Staff are friendly, and go out of their way to be helpful and one can tell that maximizing the experience of the guest is a core company value.
My room was clean, well stocked and I wanted for nothing. The breakfast is fit for a king and the serving staff again focuses on each guest. We also enjoyed the caviar and jazz bruch on sunday morning and it was spectacular, There is a lobby bar that actually reminded me of a small ball room which is open for food and beverage service 24 hours a day. I can not say enough good things about this hotel and my experince
