“Reliable, comfortable hotel in St Petersburg”
Reviewed 11 October 2012

You just never know what to expect in Russia.

The cities are fast paced, self-absorbed, rude and slightly edgey and frankly, so are most of the people, hotels and restuarants.

The staff at the Corinthia impressed me from the outset, bending over backwards to help us with the papers before we had even left home, and that first impression was confirmed upon arrival - professional and prompt at every opportunity, organising cars, ballet tickets, restuarant bookings etc.

The hotel itself is located on busy Nevsky Prospect, walking distance to shopping, canal tours, subway, and many attractions. There was a security person at the entrance at all times, which was a comfort as the city can be overwhelming at times - it was good to know we could just duck back inside with the family for a breather if need be.

The room was quality and the hotel facilities excellent, the only letdown was the Imperial restuarant, which was expensive, but with poor service and an unimaginate menu.

Overall coming back each night to a hotel where you knew you were welcome and valued helped make the whole St Petersburg experience worthwhile.

Well, having spent 15 day business trip in st Petersburg, I can easily say all the hotels from different types and room prices, there is no perfect stay...but comfortable bed ( very rare in st Petersburg ), clean and silent room without tobacco smell, good breakfast and smiling employees. We stayed 5 nights with a special price for 120$ nightly. You may use free Internet in lobby and breakfast area. Be carefull about reception and concierge. Prices for taxi, opera and ballet shows are astronomic! Help your selves about these .... The standard rooms from 1980's, bathrooms are motorway hotel class...but anyway clean and comfortable. Very nice lobby and jazz bar...

Its a good location and with a 50% off deal on their normal rate we were pleased overall. I would agree that its probably a 4 star, given the lack of pool, separate shower and no shaver socket in the bathroom as a few examples of things you might expect to get. We booked 2 non smoking rooms 3 months in advance and were put in smoking rooms on arrival. When I complained I was told the hotel was full so nothing could be done. When I then also complained that the free wifi that came with my packaged room rate wasn't working the receptionist tried harder and found us the two rooms we should have been given when we arrived(i was charged for the free wifi on departure but it was removed when I complained).
So although not everything was perfect, the response I got when I complained was eventually pretty good, concierge was helpful and friendly and all in all we had a very enjoyable stay. I don't have a problem with hotels making mistakes as long as they are motivated solve them and on this experience I would say they are.
It felt a predominantly business hotel and if you bear that in mind you wont be disappointed.

Room Tip: Non Smoking rooms are on the 4th floor and the higher the floor the less road noise you will hear. H...

Good location, spent 5days here on a business trip; it is rated as a 5* but my opinion is it is a 4*.....the staff were helpful and nice, but not great hospitality. the room was very good, clean, good sleep. good breakfast but I would prefer a larger choice. all in all it's good value for business

The only plus of the Corinthia Hotel, St Petersburg is the location right on Nevsky Prospect, the main busy street.
The lobby looks grand, other than that, nothing deserves more than a 3.5 star.

Room: standard as a motel in N. America, mattress is too soft.
Esp the bathroom, I thought I was in a motel. The poor design of the bathtub, every night after shower, the floor is flooded with the spalshes from the shower. There is no washbasin counter space, ladies, your tolietries/cosmetic items would drop like dominoes. Well, the toiletries (bath gel and shampoo) is of good quality.

Service: slow, poor. It took more than 25 mins for a flask of hot water to be delivered.

The hotel is catered for groups/conference, breakfast is a nightmare, the staff couldn't cope with the influx of house guests for breakfast. I never experienced sharing a table with strangers at breakfast in a "5-star" hotel restaurant. Chaotic is my 4-day impression. Independent travellers or business travellers, there are better choices along Nevsky Prospect.

No in-house bank or currency conversion service. The currency concersion or ATM machine outside the main entrance is mal-function.

I regretted to take the reviews, a major flaw in my recent Russia trip.

Room Tip: Just don't stay here. If you have to, room facing the main street at night, raging and roaring...

This hotel is situated along Nevsky prospekt which is a major street in the city. There are a lot of eating and shopping places along this road. Main sightseeing attractions are within walking distance, about 15-20 minutes. The hotel rooms are well appointed with complete amenities. The staff is also very helpful.

Situated on Nevsky Prospect this hotel is within walking distance of most of the tourist sites so long as you are a good walker. If you primary focus is the Hermitage then there are better situated hotels.

The hotel itself is well appointed. We had a room on the executive floor with access to the executive lounge. The lounge is comfortable and the staff are pleasant and very helpful. As with most places in St Petersburg many of the staff struggle with English but everyone seems to get by. Breakfast in the lounge was more than adequate as was the food available throughout the day. The wine served was Chilean which seems a bit weird in a Russian restaurant - why not showcase some of your own wines which are every bit as good as the wines that were on offer.

Our room was a good sizw qitha separate bath and shower. Unfortunately the shower didn't drain propertly and was very quickly to the point where it would overflow. Despite reporting this and being told that it would be attended to immediately the problem was not rectified and we had to put up with it for the 4 days we stayed. This is not good enough in a property of this standard.
