“excellent breakfast, wonderful hotel”
Reviewed 7 September 2013

This is a beautiful hotel. Be sure to check out the view at sunset from the balcony of the fitness center. It is incredible! Breakfast was a huge, delicious spread. Staff was very friendly. The rooms were large and clean. Take a water filter if you intend to drink tap water or even just to use it for brushing. It is very brown. This is an excellent location across from a convenience store, and near many restaurants.
I'd definitely stay there again.

The location of this hotel is its key, right on Nevsky Prospekt you are short walks from major tourist sights. The restaurants were massively hyped to us and the menus were old fashioned and unimaginative and at extortionate prices for the quality. Breakfast was very poor, hot food was served cold and service was only available when pursued. The best feature is the executive lounge, which is available to those staying in the executive wing. High quality, freshly produced food and drinks including 'champagne' and decent Russian beers are available all day long for no extra cost. The rooms are very good, beds are enormous and comfortable and washing facilities fine, so long as brown, metallic Russian tap water doesn't freak you out. Get a deal or go elsewhere.

Nice location, clean, great hall and nice rooms, gentle people .... All was good in our staying in this hotel. To walk to and from the center is a nice walk but if tired a tram or a bus can solve the problem with less than one US$. Per ticket.

Hotel offers good rooms. We were booked on a suite which was comfortable and decent size. Concierge service was efficiently provided by the concierges and reception staff. Offered very good advices from printing from the internet tickets to the Hermitage museum, to booking a private yacht to visit the canals and the Great Sea while providing champaign and snacks for the 2 hour voyage.
We will come back

Hotel is well located, just about a km from main train station.
Room size was average, room has all basic amenities, no great view from the room.
As we travelled in big group, breakfast was not great.

I chose the Corinthia Hotel due to a very favorable promotional rate I was able to confirm on their website and based on the fact that it's considered one of the better hotels in St. Petersburg. I found it to be an average hotel. Upon entering the lobby, I was impressed by the modern elegant design that came across as hip and a bit trendy. They even have a DJ in the lobby "spinning" modern music throughout the public areas. I was upgraded to a Grand Deluxe room, which was very large and included two bathrooms and a separate sitting area. It overlooked the internal courtyard which proved to be very quiet. The room and bath were comfortable and offered good amenities.

Our rate did not include breakfast and we did take advantage of the buffet in the Imperial Restaurant on our first morning. This proved to be a major disappointment on many levels. First, the outrageous rate of 1,450 per person. Second, the buffet was very crowded and it took awhile to get any food. Third, the food was mediocre at best and the hot food was barely warm. For a deluxe hotel breakfast buffet, they didn't even offer the option of freshly prepared eggs. Finally, the service was almost non-existent. You literally had to wave someone down to get anything and it appeared that they thought they were doing you a favor by even acknowledging you. For the remainder of our stay we went outside and chose different cafes along Nevsky Prospect and were treated to a freshly prepared breakfast with good service for less than what the hotel was charging for one person.

The front desk and concierge staff were always helpful, but again, not overly attentive or friendly. The hotel does offer a very small spa and health club. While the hotel location may be ideal for business, it's not the best for sightseeing. Almost every tourist attraction is a 25 - 35 minute walk, or longer. However, it is within a short walk to two different metro stops. The one amenity that we did take advantage of was the hotel car service. The average cost to most central areas was 700 rubles (about $21 USD) which was well worth the expense. Although a bit more expensive than a taxi, it was much more convenient. And the transportation was always provided in a deluxe BMW sedan with a professional driver, who were always friendly and helpful, often more so than the rest of the hotel staff.

Given a choice, I would definitely choose a hotel closer to the major tourist attractions of St. Petersburg.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking an internal courtyard to ensure quiet.

We spent five wonderful nights at this lovely hotel. Although it felt like almost 3 kms along Nevsky Prospect to the Hermitage and the river (it was a long walk!), the many buses and trolley buses made the travelling around the city extremely easy. The driver of the car I booked to collect me from the Helsinki train was waiting when the train pulled in, check-in was smooth, the rooms in the Executive wing are superbly quiet and I found the large bed amongst the most comfortable I have enjoyed in all my travels. The Executive Lounge serves a relatively simple but filling breakfast, and plentiful snacks and wine in the evening.

It was the staff, though, that made the visit so special. On my first evening, I was almost alone in the lounge and not sure how to plan the following day. The young man on duty was a mine of information and happily chatted with me for over an hour. The receptionists and concierge staff were similarly helpful, meeting every enquiry with smiles.

We would have absolutely no hesitation in staying here again on any future visits to St. Petersburg.

Room Tip: Fourth Floor in the Executive Wing was wonderfully quiet.
