“Good Location”
Reviewed 16 August 2013

Stayed at this hotel as part of a tour. The location was excellent but the hotel very average. However the rooms were clean and comfortable and I had a good nights sleep every night of my stay. The breakfast was OK but there seemed to be some odd choices in the hot buffet! I used the bar on 7th floor on one occasion and found the prices to be similar to anywhere in St. Petersburg. There are plenty of good bars and restaurants in the road parrallel to the back of the hotel which our party used as we were on a bed and breakfast arrangement. It was also convenient for the metro station or a reasonable walk to shops/attractions.

Room Tip: difficult to say which rooms were best location as the floor layout was very confusing. Mine looked...

We found this hotel through the Lonely Planet App, and were in a situation where we were desperate for a room. The rooms are outdated but clean and comfortable enough. However, the customer service is terrible, the check ins are long, and you are best paying cash in Rubles because if you pay with a credit card their $1 CAD = 45 units (what are units????). But that's not all, they will show you the price per night on the bill in say CAD, then they convert the total with the 45 unit exchange rate and charge you the inflated price in Rubles so you still end up paying an exchange on you credit card. Also, they stated me one price over the phone and upon arrival it changed. When we confronted the reception staff the response was "Have you a recording of your phone conversation?" Speechless!

If it wasn't for the terrible front desk inconsistencies, this could be an actual 3 star hotel. The breakfast was good, the bathroom clean with good water pressure, the beds are ok, and the location is good. My advise would be to book and pay in full online!

This is a late review from Sep 2012, so I don't know if the things have changed, but I can't recommend this hotel for adult travellers, who want their hotel to be clean and welcoming.
The room was out-dated and the bed was worn and hard. The breakfast room was extremely hot and I couldn't help thinking that the dishes are there for many hours, if they are eatable or not.
The only positive side was the location, near metro and shopping.

This was our last destination for four nights. We were very excited and were looking forward to staying in that hotel. Staff at the reception were very unpleasant. It made me feel that we are bothering them by checking in: no eye contact, no acknowledging that we are customers, no help with luggage. Most useless reception staff is Constantine. Next day we had reported that air conditioning is not working and safe was broken in our room. I tried to tell the staff at the reception few times about room issues, but these problems never got solved.
Breakfast room is far too small for the amount of people in the morning. So some guests are forced to go outside in the cold.

for the price and the location of the hotel this is one of the best choise you can make. forget the fancy room or loby or restaurent but you have a metro station in front of the hotel and you can be in the heart of the city in 5 minutes.....really good spot......

the breakfest is ok you hace everything you need, nothing fancy but kind of goog. the a/c did not work in my room and this is not a quiet hotel......tof to spleep well. but was clean.

the fitness room is basic but you can do a complete training with a little bit of imagination :). two time i try go to the gym but the door was lock so i waste 10 minutes each time to go the the reception and the staf call the person responsible for the fitness center to come open the door. at least the person at the reception respond well to my demands and spoke a good English

so go to this hotel for the spot but don't expect a nice hotel.....

The hotel is clean and central. I give it 5 stars because the rooms are good and the staff efficient and it is an excellent location. The buffet breakfast are excellent - but the set dinner (I was in a tour group) were not good.

The Dostoevsky Hotel was a very good hotel in my opinon, the staff was very friendly indeed. It is situated in the middle of the city and close to cafeterias and shops. Breakfast was really good, a big range of different things to eat.
