6 nights of noisy, hot, sleepless nights in a tiny room with mostly hostile service from the hotel staff.
I asked:
"Can you help us with earplugs". "No".
"Can anything be done about the airconditioning". "No, nobody in the hotel has airconditioning".
"Is it normal that a man claiming to be from hotel security knocked on our door at 1am?". Laughter from the receptionist!

The room was not cheap by any standards (£140 per night) and the reviews compare very badly with other 3 star hotels in St Petersburg (so I am not applying unreasonable standards).

The view is quite nice but you have to look past the construction site and huge busy road in front of the building first. The bathroom was ok and the room was cleaned when we asked.

A very poor location for getting to Lenexpo, so no idea why the conference organisers recommended this hotel. We relied on their referral.

Positives - the breakfast was generous and varied, though the cold drinks were warm and the hot drinks were tepid. The bar had drinks and food available all hours. The was a nice lady in the post office in the lobby who spoke very good English (unlike most of the other staff) and one nice receptionist one night, who gave us maps, a smile and some useful tourist info. Maybe she could train her dismissive, unhelpful, poorly informed, rude colleagues.

Room Tip: Maybe rooms not facing the river are quieter. Take ear plugs and eye mask (thin curtains and white nights???). Presumably higher rooms are less noisy, and end of corridor far from the lifts.

Very handy location for me with excellent views. No doubt a flagship hotel in 1970 but sadly lacking now.

In our room, the wallpaper is peeling and grubby, and the furniture/woodwork has the original 1970's varnish which is cracking and coming off. No air con (there's a control box that feebly circulates warmish air which looks like it controlled a/c once upon a time) which is a problem in 30 degrees or so, especially when combined with the relentless bathroom heating. The window opens wide (not child friendly but perfect for suicide) but lets in the noise from the main road outside, construction work below (been going on for at least a year) and the notorious mozzies (and scavenging seagulls according to the leaflet in the room!). No tea, coffee or water to drink in the room or room service but there is a water 'cooler' on the landing (empty last night, dispensing luke-warm water tonight) with its grey, stained carpet tiles. The water from the bathroom tap has an unique flavour which discourages its consumption.

No food available late at night, even in the bar. Sat down at a table there only to be driven away by the pool of vomit on the floor. I was reluctant to point it out to staff fearing it might get lost in translation and they might think I was responsible for it.

Extensive buffet breakfast but not massively appetising, e.g. 'fruit juice' is squash, numerous unidentifiable food-stuffs on hot plates. Replenishing items was a bit haphazard, e.g. gave up waiting for cups on day 2.

Room Tip: Book somewhere else!

OK firstly, it seems secure, there is a water cooler on each floor, free wifi, it has a bar (and another next door called "the torn off ball") and a restaurant. No real problems checking in or out. There is a great view in some rooms, really good with lots of water, bridges, a row or two of fantastic buildings, an old warship.

But it just has some issues with real quality. The corridor carpets are dirty, and applied directly to concrete, they look 70's and probably are. The curtain in my room did not fit across the window (important in June since it does not really get dark). There was no air-con, and the sheet was smaller than the mattress. The mattress was thin, and old. The room looked refurbished in pretend wood (like IBIS etc use) and was OK, but the bathroom looked original. Lots of hot water, and a good shower. Unfortunately they book rooms to unsupervised noisy children, not good with thin walls and doors.

The scene outside was chaotic, the river/sea front was being redone, and was hence a building site. Was OK when I was there but I expect it can be noisy and dusty at times. No real effort has been made to show where the front door is, so if you do not arrive by taxi it might be hard to find! I only took one taxi in the whole trip despite needing to be at the University each day. walking it was a pleasure (but I walk 1.5 hours per day with my dogs normally). The centre is equally walk-able, taking 30 minutes more or less.

Room Tip: room with a view of Neva river

I booked 1 night through our business travel agency because the location was suitable for me. The hotel is absolutely out of date. Everything looks filthy and old. I booked a room with a king size bed, which looked very nice on the foto. In reality I received a room with 2 extremely narrow beds and dirty carpet on the floor. It was rather hot and there was no air conditioner though there was a remote control for it. The receptionist told me that the air system “is going to be placed in the rooms in the future” but it seemed that the control was more than 20 years old. The “beautiful view on the Neva river” turned out to be a view on the river AND the highway, which made it impossible to sleep with an opened window. When I asked why have I received a room with 2 beds instead of 1 for 4900 rub(approx 120 euro) I was told that there were simply no rooms left and I will have to cope with that.
I will never stay at this place again and recommend you to choose any other place if you plan to visit St-Pete.

Stunning views over the water and the city were let down by a tired hotel full of students using the event centre next door. Booked through Russian Tourist Office big mistake will not through them again. Location was not good thirty minute walk to city centre ten minutes from nearest bus and twenty minutes from nearest metro.
