“a good location but an average hotel room”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

The hotel looks like a good Marriott hotel from the outside: the atrium, the front desk. The room size was very comfortable , the beds met the standards and were comfortable. The bathroom however was below standard : old bathtub, small size, poor hairdryer.
Breakfast buffet was good.
The staff was very pleasant and attentive, providing nice attention.
The hotel location is very convenient and you can walk to the the different museums, churches, the canals...
Globally, we were disappointed by the hotel quality and would not go back there.

Stayed here April 2014, initially for four nights which became 11 nights.

The hotel is centrally located, easily identifiable as a Marriott group hotel and with that the brilliant service that is a key feature of the brand.

The rooms are big, bright, clean and serviced well. No flaky paint, broken lights or noise (unlike some London properties!)

However, it is the staff that are the stars. Our stay was extended for reasons outside of our control and the team bent over backwards to do all they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible in somewhat difficult circumstances.

I can't fault the team or the hotel. A special mention for Denis on the front desk - Thank you!

Room Tip: There are rooms that face into an inner atrium - found these very quiet.

We stayed here in March for 4 days. The hotel was in a great location, near to everything. I waned to stay in an American chain hotel due for security, and language reasons. Their concierge service was fantastic. We arranged with them to get picked up at the airport, as our arrival was near midnight. A lovely A class Mercedes picked up and they were on time. Room was perfect and next morning the breakfast was excellent. Their concierge service is from 9am to 9pm and they will arrange everything. Nothing was too much trouble for the girls who were there.
All the staff were helpful. We walked everywhere, it is very near the Hermitage. We walked to the opera and also to Nevesky Prospect. I cant recommend this hotel highly enough as it is perfect for visiting St Petersburg. It is on a quiet street so no noise at night is an added bonus.

Room Tip: Our room was perfect and it faced the atrium so it was especially quiet

We were in Russia in 1996 and went back again early 2014. What a difference a trillion dollars (or more) in oil revenue makes- everything is so much nicer. Not sure why St Pete doesn't get more attention on a world wide stage- it's a first class city largely ignored by travelistas. I'm platinum with Marriott- they put us in what I think was probably the best room in the hotel- on the top floor with a great view of the cathedral. The room is a little funky on the top floor because of the attic like windows, but it was a suite (platinum upgrade) and gave us plenty of room and is very quiet. We were there in winter so imagine not too many people were touring Russia- for good reason as the city is dark and cold but we managed. The room is decorated in an outdated way and the whole place could use a renovation, but I had such low expectations after our 1996 experience in Russia that we were ecstatic with the lodgings. Close to everything, use them to get your tickets to the Hermitage museum. Get explicit instructions from them on what line to go to and avoid at the Hermitage- the hotel allows you to skip the longer lines but is a very Russian and complicated mess to figure it all out. Breakfast was free for platinum and nice.
We loved the hotel but then we walked into the Belmond Grand Hotel down the road- just looking around the lobby- now that's a real hotel. If you're rich or find a good deal, stay at the Grand. If not, the Renaissance is just fine- no complaints.

Room Tip: Has views of the cathedral.

This hotel, around the corner from St. Isaac Cathedral, is walking distance to Hermitage, where showing room key allows one to skip the long lines awaiting admission. (You still must pay, naturally.) Staff is friendly and professional. We (spouse, adult son, and I) enjoyed a five-night stay here on a repeat visit to St. Petersburg. This is quiet area, but a short walk brings you to Nevsky Prospekt, with all its shops and crowds.

Hotel is also a short walk to the hydrofoil pier for travel to Peterhof, which is amazing, but difficult to reach if weather does not allow for hydrofoil travel.

Breakfast, included for two persons, in room price, was wonderful. Also to be noted, within walking distance is Four Seasons Hotel, which has a wonderful Afternoon Tea, and really nice, dinner.

Room Tip: Some rooms are larger than others. Ask.

Fantastic location walkable to all the main sights. All the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room was comfortable and clean. A very nice stay.

Tip: I booked the hotel car to and from the airport and it was prompt, safe and comfortable. About $70 USD which was comparable to what I heard other guests paid for a taxi and gave me more peace of mind.

Stayed at the Marriott Baltic with my Fiancee and her daughter between 4th and 9th January 2014 and was impressed with the hotel and the central location. Staff friendly without being overbearing and the superior room with two twin beds was great. Very comfortable beds, in room tea and coffee facilities provided which is always good. I agree with earlier reviewers that the Wi-Fi was poor and needs sorting out.

I have to travel back to Russia in April, so I would consider staying here again.
