Owner description: The oldest and one of the tallest buildings in St. Petersburg is popular for the spectacular view provided by the thin, gilded needle-like spire rising from its bell tower. The graves of nearly all Romanov rulers since Peter the Great are here.

Really stunning inside and very different in both character and architecture to the other important churches. I would recommend you visit. The fort is generally interesting.

“Resting place of the Tsars”
Reviewed 25 August 2013 via mobile

Beautiful from the ouside it has an eerie feeling inside where the past Tsars are buried. The chapel devoted to the Romanovs feels almost like an apology. Many Russians we met in St. Peyersburg did not agree with the Bolshevics murdering them.
Oddly Catherine the Great is buried here as is her Husband Peter III that she had murdered and buried elsewhere. Their son had Peter III body moved here from where he was originally buried.

“The magnificent burial place of the Romanov Czars of Russia”
Reviewed 10 August 2013

This fortress built by Peter the Great when he founded St. Petersburg as his new capital, contains this cathedral where all the Czars of Russia are buried including Peter the Great and Catherine the Great. The interior are and iconostasis is second to none in this cathedral which today functions as a museum.

“An interesting experience”
Reviewed 8 August 2013 via mobile

To enter the fortress is free. There are charges at different places so you choose what you want to see. I went into the church but it was noisy, over crowded and therefore, for me, overpriced.
The prison was exciting.
The roof walk was good- beautiful views.
The paterna was simply a welcome break from the sun- nothing special!
I would go back to sit on the banks near the water. I was told tickets last for the following day too but I haven't tried this.

“Burial place of the Czars and Czarinas”
Reviewed 4 August 2013 via mobile

Crowded but worth it. It was a very beautiful church. The last Romonovs are buried there. They are given a place of honor. I found it moving.
