The Russian painting has started relatively late, and while the rest of Europe was developing art for centuries. the Russians did it in a few decades. This museum displays the fantastic collection of Russian masters, showing that there wasn't lack of talent between Russian artists and there are incredible paintings all over the museum. If you are not familiar with th Russian art this museum is highly recommended!

There are many cultural attractions in St.Petersburg Russia...92 that I know of!

This is worth a visit to see Russian art and there are some very impressive pieces worth seeing that alone justify the price of admission. Plan on minimum 3 hours but recommend 5 hours and take your time. Upon first entering you will see some large pieces that seem like they are about 120 square feet each! One wonders how the accuracy could be so good on such a large canvas. But then again this is Russia...a much misunderstood country and one of great achievements that become lost in the vestiges of politics.

We were running out of time and just managed a few rooms in this museum but found it very interesting. Very different to what one sees in the other sights in St Petersburg. Russia artworks with a lot of historical significance.
So much to see and so little time.....

After the Hermitage with its poor lighting and mad crowds, this museum was so refreshing. Only the odd tour group, lots of quiet spaces to enjoy a vast historical sweep of Russian art. The audio guide was excellent too.

A great collection of Russian art, and a better museum to visit than the Hermitage, which tends to be swarming with tourists.
