Great experience mainly because of the story behind. An audio guide is mandatory to experience this!

I have to admit, I didn't know much about Pushkin when I decided to visit this museum. I knew he was a poet and that he had died after a duel. That's it. But if that's all you know, this museum is still utterly fascinating. Situated in a quiet apartment block just off Nevsky Prospeckt, it's one of those places you can just wander through and contemplate what those walls saw and heard, the drama that transpired between husband and wife, poet and admirers, father and children. Like all of the best museums, personal effects abound from his wife's dressing table to his children's toys, to the leather couch where he breathed his last. It's all there in an incredible walk through time and history. The perfect place to visit if you want to avoid the crowds at the bigger sites and just soak up some history.

Ohh, it was terrible! The guide is bad as a Russian soup and the air is also that quality. We were interested in it at first, but all we heard there was about the death of Pushkin. Nothing about his life nor his work. Horrible!

Very moving and informative. Renting the outstanding and inexpensive audioguide, which includes snatches of Pushkin's poetry, also gets you around having a timed ticket. The attached cafe is a real bargain - 2 cups of tea and a pastry cost a little over $3.

Although this was quite a sad moment (the place where Pushkin died being so young), the place really makes you feel the atmosphere of that time and recall one more time the Pushkin's contribution to the world literature and poetry. People to whom Pushkin's name mean something - visit this place.

The organization of the visit is quite complicated. There are excursions at some fixed times (every 20-30 mins) for which you need to buy ticket in advance + there are groups of students/kids + the possibility to take an audioguide (but the people with audiguides also enter at some specific times). During the peak season there is no chance to take an excursion for the closest times (next 1-2 hours).
Probably the best tactic (as we did) is to step in there in the morning and buy tickets for the evening/2nd half of the day. Then visit something else and return back at the excursion time.
