“Simply great!”

We had doubts before entering, because there were too many kids and we thought it was museum for children. But we really enjoyed the time. for sure it worths the money (70rubles for students, 200 for adults).

“Avoid - dishonest, thieving staff”
Reviewed 28 November 2013

I wanted to like this museum, but I didn't have a chance. My boyfriend and I bought tickets from the cash, and then walked to the main entrance. The cashier appeared in the foyer, closing the door to the main hall behind her and demanded more money to see the exhibit. We asked why, and she asked to see the ticket, and then went to grab it, physically attacking me. I wrestled back the ticket, and she then started hitting me and jabbing me. My boyfriend had to hold her arms and push her back. She then started pushing us both. We got into the musem, but when we presented our tickets to the control lady, the cash lady actually succeeded in stealing away one of the tickets, and then claimed that we only ever bought one ticket. Shocked, we checked our change, and we had for sure bought two tickets. The rest of the ladies there then ignored us. We went to security, who ignored us. We ended up getting our money back two hours later, by talking to a tourist information attendant. This was not before the museum claimed they were willing to only refund one of the tickets due to this "misunderstanding" because one of us had already "used" a ticket (i.e. They accepted one ticket at the control, but stole the other. Neither of us actually visited the museum). Pretty disgraceful. Had it been a single person at fault in this situation, or a misunderstaning, I could overlook it, but the problem with this museum is a lot deeper it seems.

“Great way to kill a few hours if the weather is bad.”
Reviewed 31 October 2013

Just returned from 2 days in St Petersburg and it rained pretty much the whole time, so we went here to avoid the weather and were pleased we did. The museum is pretty tired looking and there isn't much flow to the exhibits, but it's well worth seeing. It is absolutely jammed packed with different species, the hummingbirds were one of my favourites along with the blue whale skeleton and of course the star of the museum the mammoth. Cheap admission, lots to see and a bit of fun along the way, if you have an hour or two to spare you could do a lot worse. The gift shops seemed quite well priced as well.

“Mammoths!!”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

Having visited many Natural History museums around the world this clearly stands out as unique, very few places in the world offer you a chance to to see, literally in the flesh an almost perfectly preserved Wolly Mammoth. Sadly I think somewhat ignored/overshadowed by the many other splendors of this glittering city. The museum contains some unbelievably wonderful ice age fauna specimens, many still with flesh and fur intact. To see the incredibly preserved Mammoths ( a sight not often seen outside of Russia) is enough reason to pay this lovely old fashioned museum a visit. The displays are dynamic and well presented and any child or adult with a love for the natural world will be in seventh heaven.

“A credit to the city and resource for all.”
Reviewed 21 July 2013

Fabulous exhibits. The Mamoth and Blue Whale exhibits are worth the price of admission alone. This is great for adults and kids. It was very muggy inside at the time of our visit so don't overdress or you will boil. This place is a true showcase for the diversity of our planet. The work carried out by the taxidermists is so imaginative as the poses adopted in many of the exhibits are so true to nature. It will easily take up 2 hours of your time and is an excellent wet weather venue. You will be hard pressed to think of a bird animal and insect and not find it here. Put it at the top of your list.
