Huge Square in front of the Winter Palace and L'Ermitage Museum. Has a 47,5 m tall Alexandr Column in the middle. It weighs more than 500 tons. Opposite to Winter Palace is Guards Corps Headquarters having nice sculpturer of horses and military men on top if it.
Many significant historical events, e.g. October Revolution and Bloody Sunday took place on this square and even nowadays lot of concerts and events are held here.
You can also ride a horse carriage there :D the carriages look like they are take straight from a fairytale book <3
Not far from Nevsky Prospekt and also leads to Palace Bridge, which is opened at night time ;)
Fabulous city,so much to see!!!Go to ALL the palaces as one is better than the next ,Catherine the great,Peter the great(my name sake )Rasputin the mad monk,History at every corner,go on a boat trip round the canals(watch for a young lad who follows your boat and sits on every bridge you pass under and waves to the people on board)( he runs for miles but does expect a tip at the end of your trip)for me seeing remains of Germanys siege on the city were quite amazing, tanks guns etc,put it on your bucket list to visit as its easier to get to that you may think !!!
Although it was EXTREMELY CROWDED, it was a fabulous experience. We were on a small group tour booked with Firebird Tours out of Ft. Lauderdale and run by Travel All Russia out of St. Petersburg. I cannot say enough about how thorough and professional both of these companies are run.
Open aired area. Surrounded with historical buildings. The atmosphere is absolutely good vibe only. Love it.
Loved the view of everything!! Great place to walk around and a nice monument in the middle of the square!!
Absolutely beautiful to just stroll along palace square just to admire the beautiful buildings, architecture and the hive of activities around. Tourist information is close by. Very helpful and assistants well versed in English. A must see activity
