My room was dirty and smelly, I couldn't order room service even though it claimed to be open until midnight. Rooms were noisy and could hear everything happening in the hallway. Only sheer curtains were not helpful during white night when it never gets dark.

I often travel to St Petersburg on business and am starting to get paranoid that our travel department is using me as a guinea pig to test 'new places'... Each time they have an interesting reason (close to client, office, etc... - but this never pans out in reality).

Polustrovo is clearly another one of their 'odd choices' and the first time I have had the opportunity to stay in a hotel that also rents rooms by the hour!!! I think this may account to some extent for the 'noisy neighbours' highlighted in other reviews. Also at about 6:00am a large tour group of chinese tourists were leaving together which involved them all knocking on each other's doors and shouting to each other... The lack of sound insulation in the rooms meant a night with almost no sleep at all :(

My experience was very similar to those expressed by others here - staff is totally inattentive and during checkin decided it would be good to 'discuss the foreigner' quite rudely in Russian (they clearly did not realise that I understand Russian very well) and I was really very offended.

Room was clean small and spartan - shower worked intermittently between very hot and very cold and toiletries provided included a small sachet of shampoo and tiny bar of soap.

The hotel tried to charge extra for registration fee which I don't need (and explained to them at length at check-in).

Location of the hotel is 'not very convenient' and despite being touted as convenient for the office I was visiting it was actually a 45 minute walk. The hotel is located in what was described as a 'prom-zone' (industrial zone) - definitely not recommended for tourists.

Room Tip: Try to find a room which is not being regularly visited by those renting by the hour - as they tend...

About 2000 rub for a night it's not bad. Our neighbour was very noisy at night, room has very bad noise protection. Restaurant at the hotel is nice. Not bad breakfast. WiFi is free.

This hotel would appear to cater for the large tour group companies. During our breakfast and one dinner we found the staff were more interested in turning the music up as loud as possible and ignored our requests to reduce the volume.

The rooms are also not sound proof and the movement of tour groups late at night and early morning ensured a good nights sleep was not possible.

I would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a relaxing place to stay.

A letter of thanks to the reviwers above. All the hotels in the center were expensive, and use of my credit card did not always provide a real confirmation . I also used Otel for this hotel, as well.
I had to take a 10 minute bus ride from the Lenina Metro. But busses were plenty, and frequent, and so were shuttle busses. The neighbourhood was residential, and rather uninteresting, but safe. There were grocery stores in the immediate vicinity.
The hotel was clean, and even had a bar, and hair salon. The room was lovely, bright, and clean, with a modern bathroom ensuite. There was even a refrig. and television. The breakfasts were terrific: huge buffet of fruit, meats, cereal, pastry, juices, coffee, tea, yogurt,, and even keffir. The service at reception was affable, and all the receptionists spoke adequate english.
I did not mind staying a little far out because for 67 Canadian dollars per day, it was such a bargain compared to what I would have spent downtown . Prices of hotels in this city are generally very expensive. Apart from how decent the hotel was, with all its amenities and all, I stayed in a quiet, real neighborhood, where everything was real, and typical...not in a noisy, touristy, downtown center. I appreciated thiis, despite the short trip home, at night. I would definitely stay here again

i stayed at the best eastern hotel polustrovo 115 metallistov prospect st petersberg
i found that the price was very good booking with Otel
but now they have increased the price by a further £100 to what i just paid
the hotel was very clean. the bathrooms was new and up to a very high standard
the room was a twin and although comfortable it was quite a good nights sleep. the room was warm. hot water and the water for drinking or brushing your teeth i found ok.
breakfast was russian style, so dont exspect to have bacon ham eggs like the european standard's. remember you are in russia so eat what they eat. breakfast was plentyful and self service.( voucher to use ) the hotel is in the middle of full referbishment and does not hinder your stay. the only thing i found was that car alarms was always going off late at night. there are no brewing facilities in the room no safe in the room. and taxis can vary in prices subject to the time of day.
if i stayed again in st petersberg again i would reccommend the hotel petro palce hotel where its is very central for everything you want to see in the city
the city is always busy 24/7 and it becomes lively late at night till around 0600am
i found the walks from the hotel to the city an eye opener. do your home work before walking. and i found it quite safe around the hotel area. you also have the market and casino 5 min's walk away. a taxi can cost you around 350 to 500 rubles to nevsky prospect oneway
if you want any further info id be pleased to tell you you can e mail me

have a good trip its a city well worth seeing

Polustrovo is a modest, but very clean and pleasant hotel. Was there with a week with a group and then for a day alone - occupied different rooms/floors, but same quality. One of the best features is the extremely pleasant staff most of whom speak English and the rest were quite tolerant of my rusty Russian - in fact there was always someone present that could speak English well. The dining facilities are not well suited for very large groups, but for smaller groups or individuals it is a pleasant and quiet place to stay. The neighborhood is mainly soviet-period residential. A 24 mini mart around the corner (water!) and a nice little sports bar nearby.
The only drawback - it is about 3 or 4 km from the nearest metro (Ploschad Lenina by Finland station) so you must take a bus or marshrutka to get to the station and back. Extremely easy - you wont have to wait more than 10 minutes to catch one of several numbers. I did this constantly and often with a troop of kids in tow. The hotel provides a list of mass transit options to the two nearest metros. But of course, once you are in the metro, all points in town are within a 15 min ride, and 15 minute walk, - as is most of Petersburg. Also, it is on the "wrong side" of the river - just be aware of this if you have an early mornng flight. Generally all the bridges are usually all down again by 4:30, so a taxi will get you to Pulkovo in a half hour - for about $25 -$30. You will make that Moscow morning connection easily.
