The Hermitage has got to be one of the best museums I have visited as well as being much larger than many it contains a wide variety of art as well as incredible architecture. Well worth a visit.

The Hermitage is certainly one of the world's great museums and a visit would not be complete without a tour of its gold room. Special arrangements have to be made to tour this venue as only 15 people at a time are let into the vaults to see it. Most often the guides speak only Russian, however our guide went in with us and translated. The famous eggs are not here, however gold and jewels from over the centuries are on display. The small fee, about $20 extra is well worth the money and trouble to arrange this visit. as the opulence and creativity of the royal jewelers, as well as Fabrege and Cartier, are artforms lost in our modern times

We visited here April 2013 with my family. Getting tickets was easy, which is saying something in Russia. The most amazing collection of art and Faberge eggs. I thought my three children would struggle, but they were inspired by a great collection. Make the effort to visit here. You may need 2 days to appreciate it fully.

It is the most beautiful building of this nature that I have ever had the privilege to visit. The Hermitage exterior is magnificent, the interior is even more so. It has to be seen to appreciate the beauty both inside and out. Besides all that, there are thousands of wonderful works of art both two and three dimensional by world famous artists. One needs to be relatively fit to follow the guides as they do move around quite quickly to see as many of the exhibits as possible. It is really mind blowing.

You can enjoy a beautiful walk surrounded by beautiful buildings. Take some bottle of water with you, sometimes it is difficult to find little shops around.
