Onceyou find this place, it doesn't look like much... but once inside it's more than adequate! The entrance is on a side street off Nevsky Prospekt, so keep an eye out for it!

Once we found it, we were warmly welcomed and made to feel comfortable. It's a small hotel of only 5 rooms I think, but it has everything you will need to enjoy the stay.

The breakfast that's included is certainly varied and sufficient. It has cereals, yoghurts, breads, cheeses and meats as well as hard boiled eggs, coffee and tea to go with juices. We both found it delicious although it seems Russians like their breads stale.

The room itself was small, but with enough space. The only issues holding this place back is its difficulty to find, and the squeaky beds!

We stayed 3 nights at Filippov 1. It is pretty basic for a hotel but in terms of value for money in St Petersburg it was great. The location is fantastic on Nevsky Prospect and near the metro. There are also a few good restaurant options near by.

The rooms were a decent size and the beds are really comfortable. The walls are quite thin though so you can here noise from people coming and going or you need to invest in ear plugs. The breakfast was reasonable.

Some people have said it's very difficult to find. That's probably because the front door isn't very obvious but there are very clear directions on the website so just write these down before you go and it's easy.

Overall don't expect a luxury boutique hotel but if you want something convenient and comfy at a good price then I would recommend here.

My friend and I stayed in room 204 for two nights. We arrived rather early and had to leave the luggage there and went back there after 14.00. Spacious, clean and well furnished room at a very reasonable rate. Breakfast selection is limited but quite adequate and tasty. The hotel could be missed as the only sign was the name of the hotel on a small door. The entrance looks very unpromising but after getting to the reception, it's another story.

Room Tip: Room 204 was in very good condition.

We stayed in Fillipov for 5 nights in October based on the reviews.

The tiny hotel (5 rooms) is located on the second floor of an old building, just a couple of blocks from the railway station. The receptions are very helpful and friendly. Their service is very good, which is a plus to the whole experience.

The room itself is a good size and is kept clean. The washroom is a bit run-down. The first night we were there, there was no hot water; the shower stalk drainage was clogged; then the glass shower door came off. Although everything was fixed, it should have been checked before the tenant arrives.

Insulation between the room is very poor. You can hear your neighbour flush the toilet or snore. Be sure to bring your ear plugs.

There is a huge shopping mall (with a grocery store inside) next the train station. You can get food and others from there.

Overall, Fillipov is not bad. I cannot give it a very good rating because there are definitely things need to be improved.

We reserved a family room which had two rooms next to each other, sharing bathroom, minibar and sofa. Rooms were separate and had large beds, a small tv (didn't open it), wardrobe with hangers and two bedside tables.

Bathroom wad basic and had towels, shampoo, soap and hair dryer supplied. Safety box was behind reception.

Breakfast was minibuffet style with cereals, coffee, tea, jogurt, blinies and juice. Stuff was really nice - each young lady smiled and was willing to help us. A couple of them spoke perfect English and some a bit less which was great as I could practise my Russian.

Yet another ex communal apartment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communal_apartment) converted to mini-hotel - Nevsky is full of them.
The shower operates in 'ouch' mode - suddenly your carefully crafted warm water can turn to bowling hot or freezing cold in a second.
The acoustics are great, you can hear conversations from all the other 5 rooms, and from the reception.

Otherwise good, though! Great location, good price, very friendly stuff.

Room Tip: Avoid room 1 - the hotel entry door buzzer is right by your ears.

Not far from the subway. Good, clean, comfortable rooms. The staff is very friendly and willing to help in any matter.Coffee, tea at any time! Breakfast good: sausages, cheese, boiled eggs, toasts, jams, pancakes, muesli, milk. Below the Mама Рома restaurant, on it in hotel allow the coupon for 5% a discount. In it I didn't eat, I can tell about it nothing. I bought to food in Stokman on Vosstaniya Square, directly from an exit from the subway. I liked it and be sure to stay there again!
