The hotel is comfortable enough, quiet comfortable rooms of a reasonable size.

Unfortunately the hotel is badly let down by front of house service :

1/ We were in St. Petersburg for five days. The breakfast menu became boring and repetitive by day three. The breakfast offering does not change and is not very interesting (tinned fruit, industrial pastries).

2/ The food at the restaurant is ok, but again the menu never changes. We only ate there twice, but if the menu was more interesting and changed then we might have eaten there more.

3/ The service is very, very, slow. Simple drinks ordered from the bar take an eternity to arrive (20 minutes for lemonade and a glass of wine ! ), even though the hotel was not busy.

4/ The staff seem to change daily, no consistency.

5/ Arrived at the airport, had pre-booked a car through the hotel.... nobody at the airport. After numerous phone calls to the hotel we ended up having to take a taxi and get it refunded by the hotel.

6/ Arranged some taxis through the hotel. On both occasions the price was agreed in advance with the hotel. But the taxi driver insisted on wanting to charge us more money than was agreed.

Dear John1450,

Thank you very much for spending time and writing your feedback about your recent stay at Alexander House Boutique Hotel.
Please take our deepest apologies for inconveniences of transfer and car rental. We have already hold internal investigation to realize what caused these mistakes and taught our staff how to prevent such omissions in our work. We hope that your complimentary transfer from hotel to the airport was carried out in a proper way.

In reference to our restaurant and breakfast menu we permanently control and change the range of menu. We agree that tinned fruit such as tinned peaches are presented but besides it we serve the breakfast with a lot of fresh seasonal fruits and berries. Also we have a wide range of home-made pastries which our cooks bake every morning for our guests.

We appreciate all your comments and remarks because they help us to improve our service.

We are looking forward to welcoming you again at Alexander House during your next trip to Saint-Petersburg.

Faithfully yours, Ekaterina Soldatkina

We had a very pleasant stay at Alexander House on our trip to St Petersburg. Its location near the Mariinsky Theatre is ideal for an evening at the ballet, but it is near enough to the center of town that we had no difficulty walking to the Hermitage and other important sights in the city. The staff were highly professional and extremely helpful, with excellent English. The highlight of our stay was the serene private garden in the rear of the hotel, where we ate breakfast every morning and enjoyed other meals and afternoon refreshments. The room was wonderfully comfortable, with a view of one of the beautiful churches in the city. We'd definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to all travelers to St Petersburg.

The hotel is beautiful, perfectly located for visiting the Mariinsky theatre and our room was extremely nice and comfortable but what made the hotel really stand out was the friendliness and willingness to help of all the staff. Making visa arrangements was no problem, we got helpful tips how to book train tickets and Alexandra from reception went out of her way to help us organize a boat trip in Karelia which was very much appreciated and helped to make our trip to Russia perfect.

Room Tip: The Paris room has a nice balcony

Stayed here on our first trip to St Petersburg. Lovely welcome and found the whole place very homely and comfortable. Stayed in the Nairobi room - simply furnished but extremely comfortable bed. Inclusive breakfast very welcome with an extensive choice. Lovely garden courtyard for meals - a welcome respite from the bustle of the city. Staff are outstanding with a good command of English for which we were grateful. Nothing too much trouble. Several lovely common areas. Only minor complaint - centrally controlled air con probably set too high for St Petersburg heat wave that we enjoyed during our White Nights stay. Others have commented on the slightly out of the way location - we enjoyed our walks along the canals to and from the sights, but the weather helped. Will definitely return.

I had a great time when I stayed at Alekxandr House. And i will not forget these days. I stayed at Nairobi and Rome. I will stay there again soon. Hotel places in the centre of the city, so it is easy to see around. Every season has its own beauty when you stay there.

This is one of the nicest small hotels I have stayed in. The staff were great. The room was large, uniquely and lovingly decorated and amazingly comfortable, looking out (admittedly over a carpark) at the beautiful cathedral with blue domes and gold stars. The garden out back is a small oasis. The breakfast is delicious and diverse, including home baking, without being lavish. Nothing seems to be too much trouble. We had a hiccup over transport from the train station and they sent a lovely dish of fruit to compensate. The only drawback is that the Hotel is about 1km from the nearest metro. But St Petersburg is not big and a walk along the canal is no hardship provided it is not raining.

Don't be deceived by the lobby or exterior. The Alexander House is one of the nicest small hotels we have stayed at. It is located slightly out of the way, on a canal. The public rooms were shockingly comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The staff could not have been more accomodating. Despite the location, we would definitely stay there again!
