This hotel was great for us, very central to all the sites and close to some good restaurants (Teplo, Gogol). Concierge was very helpful and we would definitely would stay here again. The rooms are spacious and clean.

As we were travelling to St.Petersburg with small children we decided to book at Petro Palace Hotel two executive rooms which were described on their site as spacious and fully corresponding to this category of the rooms. We were also impressed by photos of this room on the hotel site and on booking.com. Upon arrival we were extremely surprised to be accommodated in two very small, tiny and dark rooms which could be considered executive by no means. Booking manager explained us that officially these rooms are executive and that not all of them correspond to their description and photos. Moreover, the hotel was semi empty, so for sure normal executive rooms were available in the hotel. So, be aware of it and be tough enough with the hotel staff when you book a room of the higher category otherwise you will find yourself in a small standard room at a price of executive one.
Sound proofing in the rooms is very bad; we were hearing everything what was happening in the neighbour room.
Reception staff is rather unfriendly, we have never seen any single smile from their side, at check-out after we paid for our stay no one of them even said goodbye to us!
While planning our trip to St.Petersburg I was in contact with the hotel booking department and concierge by e-mail. Several times my letters were remaining without answers for days, so I had to remind them about my requests and only after that I was receiving their answer.
Breakfast is rather average.
Good things are excellent location, free water and tea/coffee set in the room.
Of course, we will never return to this hotel. If it gets 3 stars instead of 4 it will be more fair and reasonable.
Hello! Thank you for your review and provided information.
Let us express our deepest apologies. All our guests deserve only the best service.
Concerning the situation with your rooms i can assure you that you were provided with the executive rooms (736&738) according to your reservation. Due to the fact that the building of the hotel was constructed in the end of 19th century some of the rooms can be different in shape but the square is the same. That's the reason why some of the rooms at first sight don't correspnd to the photos you'va seen.
As for the quality of breakfast and food – our cooks who serve the guests during the breakfast time are usually ready to fulfill all the requests. We are really sorry for such a bad impression and we will provide an additional training for our staff.
We hope you will accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. All the comments regarding the service are very important to us. We want our guests to enjoy staying in the Petro Palace Hotel from the very beginning, so this situation is a serious concern for us. Our staff will receive special additional training during the next two weeks so we hope such an incident won’t happen again.
We'll be glad to see you in our hotel again!
Great hotel in the historic heart of the city. Within walking distance from all major sights and a lot of good restaurants nearby. Nice clean rooms and nice bathrooms. Very good English-speaking staff and thry were very helpful.
The brekfast was surprisingly poor with a very bad selection and the hot food was cold. No proper coffee.
Internet connection in rooms poor.
I would definitely stay here again (but I would ear breakfast out!)
The location is perfect, close to the Hermitage, the Isaac Cathedral, Nevsky Prospect, Yusupov Palace etc. The street, too, Malaya Morskaya, is interesting: Tchaikovsky lived and died here, and Gogol lived there. Excellent location for many good restaurants and bars. Staff are friendly and helpful and all speak perfect English.
The hotel is relatively well equipped, but could be better. We stayed there twice. The first time, the room was fine. The second, the room was so tiny it was claustrophobic (hence only three stars and not four).
We ate in the restaurant on the top floor - but only once. Tiny, and no surprise with hindsight that it was almost empty. The food was a mediocre attempt at Italian. The breakfast restaurant is fine, as is the breakfast itself. but there are actually too many staff on duty and hence the service is too prompt. On one occasion, I had just picked up a roll from my plate to put into my mouth and the plate was whisked away by an over-eager waiter.
The bar downstairs ok, but it has the main entrance right alongside, which means a blast of cold air every time someone comes in - which is often.
It's an old refurbished building, probably not a palace but a rich merchant's home, so it's built on typical St P style - a quadrangle. There are only two lifts - next to each other but so constructed that you can't watch both at the same time, so you have be alert. Silly mistake.
Hotel very nice located just a bloc away from the Hermitage museum and shopping area. Several bar and restaurant are located at walking distance from the hotel. Rooms are clean, quiet and offer all modern comfort.
We picked this hotel primarily for its location as we wanted to be in the heart of St Petersburg.
On checking in the hotel staff were efficient they spoke perfect English and were friendly for Russia.
Our room was big with a seating area, big tv with some English channels, the bathroom was nice and had toiletries too and we even had complimentary fruit in the room which was nice.
The concierge was helpful printing out a couple of things we needed. The whole stay was great there are restaurants close to the hotel and the metro station is literally a 3 minute walk away!
Great stay would recommend it and if I come back to St Petersburg I would return.
