“Clean Hotel, Excellent location”
Reviewed 1 April 2013

If you are looking for a CLEAN SAFE hotel at a reasonable price that is a 5 minute walk from Hermitage, this hotel is an excellent choice.
The hotel includes buffet breakfast, which is a fairly simple affair (coffee, juice, hard boiled eggs, cheese, cereal, etc..) but it will sustain you for the morning's adventures.
The rooms are clean and the beds are.. Russian. If you are looking for soft plush American beds, you need to stay at an American chain.
The staff speaks English quite well, are very friendly and helpful. The Nevsky Hotel chain answers e-mails promptly and are a professional organization (it seems they are a hotel chain).
The hotel is centrally located a 5 minute walk to the Hermitage, 5 minutes to the Church of the Spilled Blood, or 10 minutes to Nevsky Prospeckt (the main street), but it is in a quiet area. (I stayed in Moscow and I think it's the noisiest city on earth)
The restaurant next door (not affiliated with the hotel) is Georgian and the food is awesome (take it from a guy who never had Georgian food until he walked into this place).

Room Tip: While the standard rooms are a bargain, go for the Superior Rooms as they are bit more spacious and...

Nevsky Moyka is a good hotel for tourists taking care of the budget. The rooms are among the cheapest in the city while standards of cleanliness and a minimum of equipment are maintained.
My room at Nevsky Moyka was small and also because of the two beds it was hard to move around in it, unfortunately beds were uncomfortable(I tried both). On the plus side for the hotel should include water kettle and small bathtub in the bathroom.
Breakfast quite good, however served on a tight mezzanine with two tables which is not easy to move around there.

View from the window is not that important but if someone is interested had a view of the local heating plant.

We stayed during the truly amazing 'White Nights' in St Petersburg. This hotel was well placed for the beautiful city. The staff were very helpful and our room was typically Russian, neat, tidy, functional but not in any way luxurious. We got assistance from the staff whenever required. Breakfast was good, fresh food. All in all a great hotel

Room Tip: get a Russian girlfriend to conduct all international negotiations ;-)

In central but quiet part of town, this is a good place to be based. Bars are nearby but you can't hear them
The staff were very friendly and breakfast was Ok
Rooms varied enournously. There were 5 couples. 2 had suites with jacuzzis and saunas, 1 had a decent sized room and 2 had broom cupboards - we all payed the same. So you really do have to request a larger room
Its not a really special hotel, but the price is very good value for what it is and it is very clean

Room Tip: Ask for one with a sauna!

Dear Guest,
We thank you for your comments that are so important to us and apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced due to the small size of our standard rooms. Superior rooms and suites are larger but they are also priced higher than standard rooms. We are glad you were satisfied with the service and hotel location and hope you will choose us again (though maybe a different room category) for your next trip to St.Petersburg.

This place is nothing special. We stayed in a twin room which was the smallest room I had ever stayed in! Could barely move. The bathroom is equally tiny. The walls are paper thin. I could hear every single word of our neighbour's conversation. I think the most annoying thing was that we paid the same amount to stay here as we did to stay at hotel 3Mosta around the corner which is an infinitely better hotel. Moika 5 is not good value for money.

Dear Guest,
We thank you for your feedback and apologize for the inconvenience caused by the small size of our standard rooms. Superior rooms and Suites are much larger, and every Suite features sauna & jacuzzi. We hope you were satisfied with the level of service and will probably choose us again (maybe different room category) for your next trip to St.Petersburg.

This hotel is quaint and modest in size and niceties, but features a great location with a staff that is friendly and incredibly helpful. Anastasia and Ana really went out of their way to assist us, from recommending restaurants and helping us find directions, to ordering taxis and even booking future reservations. The price was a little high, but not painfully expensive. And in a city with $5 coffees, it was nice to drink as many cups as we wanted with our inclusive price breakfast.

We were moved to the Moyka from another Nevsky hotel without being informed until we arrived. Because of that, we were given a larger room, but unfortunately size doesn't help in this case.

Good parts: clean room, nice staff, fantastic location, OK price, seemed safe

Not so good:
The bedroom itself was on the upper floor of the two story room, which had 4 skylights. 1 did not have a shade at all and the others had paper thin coverings, which meant the room was light as day all the time (literally, due of course to White Nights). Room decor and especially carpeting is very tired and worn. Breakfast was pretty limited as well

Overall would stay again if we could't find something else comparable in the area, but would check elsewhere first.

Room Tip: Avoid top floor rooms, as skylights may not be covered and let in 100% of daylight
