Reviewed 30 April 2012

I stayed at Pushka Inn in April 2012 and had a marvelous experience. The phenomenal staff was helpful, informative and patient...even when I felt we were being annoying. For example, on our day of departure we needed to check in to our flights and print out our boarding passes for the airport and the hotel manager on duty let us use her private "back room" office computer with the printer. The front desk staff also made all of our taxi and dinner reservations for the entire trip. Lesser hotels probably would've been frustrated by our neediness, but we were treated with the utmost courtesy. They definitely went the extra mile.

I was traveling in a group of three people and we stayed in the 3 bedroom, 2 full bathroom family apartment, which was clean and comfortable. The decor is lovely and the hotel didn't seem run-down, obviously it is nothing like the Taleon or Astoria, but it would be ridiculous to compare it to that standard anyway! The location leaves little room for improvement, only a stone's throw from the Hermitage. The hotel's breakfast, provided at the adjacent restaurant, is basic but delicious. I could've eaten platefuls of the crepes!

If I were to nitpick, the only minor negative thing I experienced was that every day of our stay the hotel cleaning staff left our windows open after they finished cleaning our room. (Mind you, this was in April and still extremely cold weather; in fact, it snowed while we were visiting.) I understand the logic of opening the window while you are cleaning to air out the room, but please close the window before you finish so I don't return to a 30F room! Brr!

In short, I would absolutely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone I know for a comfortable, affordable hotel in a stellar location with truly wonderful staff.

Dear Wayfaring-Waffle,
thanks a lot for your detailed comments!
We are really sorry about discomfort caused by our aim to ventilate the rooms and regret that you did not let us know during your staying. Sometimes we do not notice our severe climate but we'll definitely consider it in the future.
We are looking forward to welcome you again, as well as your family and friends!
Sincerely, Elena Belova and Pushka INN hotel staff.

We just arrived back home from our trip to St. Petersburg, Russia and we had an incredible time. The reason for our "most excellent adventure" was the Pushka Inn. There are several reasons why this hotel is five star. First, the staff are incredible. Extremely friendly and very professional. They are always ready to assist you with directions or suggestions for your daily excursions. They also lend a freindly ear to hear about your adventures at the end of the day. Julia, Maxim and the entire staff was the best! They also assisted us with transfers from the train station to the hotel. Second, is it's proximity to the Hermitage and other must see sites. You can easily walk to anywhere in the city from the hotel. They are located on this charming canel and you are immediately taken away to another point in time. Third, the rooms are clean, spacious, very modern and they inlcude a most comfortable bed, room safe, hair dryer, iron/board, and minibar. The hotel itself is beautifully appointed and decorated in a neoclassical style. Forth, the incredible Pushka Inn restaurant located just next door to the hotel. Breakfast is inlcuded in your nightly cost. I don't mean a continental breakfast, I mean a delicious full course breakfast with hot and cold dishes. It provided us with a great start to our very full and busy days in St. Peterburg. The restaurant also serves lunch and dinner and if your are a guest of the hotel, you receive a 25% discount on your other meals. We ate dinner there every night. The staff is professional and attentive. The restaurant is very clean, decorated beautifully and the menu is varied with lots of selections to appeal to any distinctive appitite.

I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. We found it on line and we are so glad we did. Thank you Pushka Inn for making our first visit to Russia a most memorable one - for all the right reasons! Please make this your stay when in St. Petersburg. You won't regret it.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with a balcony that over looks one of the charming canels. It was great to sit out...

Dear Vincent F,
On behalf of all our staff we thank you for your favourable and detailed review. As we always mention, such kind attention helps not only to travelers but inspires us as well!
Please kindly let us clarify two moments to avoid some misunderstanding: there is 20% discount provided to our guests in the restaurant (not 25%); our rooms are provived with small regrigerators, they are not filled like minibars.

We are looking forward to welcome you again and wish you a pleasant expirience during all your trips in future!

Thanks to other reviewers we selected this hotel and we were not disappointed. The staff were helpful before we arrived in providing the necessary paperwork for the visa , arranging a minibus for collection and to make bookings and reservations throughut our stay. Room 203 without a view was spacious and an extremely comfortable bed- no bath. A fridge is provded - not a kettle as Russian rules preclude.Round the corner from the Hermitage and walking distance of most places. Breakfast was good and in fact much better thna expected. Can not praise the service more highly.

Room Tip: Those rooms fronting the canal have a view but may be worken early by stallholders rumbling along...

A quiet hotel in the heart of St Petersburg, along a canal. It has what the expensive hotels have, but at a lmuch lower price. The hotel came out of a restaurant, so not only great breakfasts, but als great lunches and dinner!

We spent 6 nights at The Pushka Inn in April and were very happy with our choice....As my husband and I have travelled through the years we look for certain things in a place to stay....Is it Safe??? Is it Clean????Is it Quiet for good sleeping???Is it close to major attractions???Are the people at the desk helpful????Is it affordable????

Well the answer to all of these questions and more is definitely YES....

Russia has its challenges to travel in and this hotel made it a little easier....St Petersburg is a beautiful city and I would love to go back again someday...and we would love to stay at the Pushka.......

Room Tip: We had a room looking over the courtyard...but I think I would prefer a room overlooking the Canal...

Great hotel. Just spent a week in April 2012.
In terms of location you cannot find better : by the Moika river and 2 mn walk from the Ermitage.
We had one of the Comfort room with view on the Moika, very nice. Staff most helpful and really friendly.
I'm sure we'll come back, in the winter next time.

This hotel is perfectly located with walking distance to most sites. The staff is extremely helpful organizing your taxi rides between box offices, theater, concert and ballet venues in order to make your day as smooth and cost-effective as possible. A special thank to Julia who were on duty during our three day stay. The room was spacious, warm and cozy, the bathroom was modern scandinavian style and the breakfast had everything including blinis. St. Petersburg and Russia can be proud of such service minded personnel. We´ll be back !
