“Very Comfortable with Great Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 November 2012

We stayed at the Pushka Inn for 6 nights in late October during our first visit to St. Petersburg. The location is perfect - very close to The Hermitage and within walking distance of all the major sights. This hotel is not luxurious but it is very clean, the rooms are modern, very comfortable and well appointed and the entire hotel is non-smoking. We had a suite on the fourth floor which was well designed and very comfortable with a combined kitchen, dining and living area and a separate bedroom. Although there were no windows, there were 4 large sky lights which were easily opened and had shades to block out the light. We were not bothered by street or canal noise but we were definitely off season. The staff was extremely personable and helpful, giving us excellent directions to Catherine's Palace by public transportation - metro and mini-bus (a bit of a challenge, but a worthwhile adventure). We enjoyed the restaurant for breakfast offering both European and American choices and also ate two other meals there The food and service were very good, staff very personable, and we appreciated its accessibility.
We arranged for a private guide for our first morning. He was excellent, highly educated, speaks excellend English. we explored the city on foot which gave us a great overview for the next few days. I took a chance and contacted him based on a Trip Advisor recommendation and I would highly recommend him. We explored on foot for 4 1/2 hours with one stop for coffee but he is flexible and can also arrange a car. His name is Alex and his email is alexpetrograd@mail.ru
Do not miss Pushkin's apt. which is next door to the hotel but easily missed. We also attended an excellent concert (orchestra and chorus) at a small theater one block from the hotel. The staff arranged for the tickets.

This was a first class choice for location with every attraction being in walkable distance especially Palace Square and The Hermitage both being 5 minutes away. Also within easy walking distance is the Church on Spilled Blood and Nevsky Prospect. The hotel itself was warm (important because it was cold outside), the room comfortable with a well appointed bathroom. The hotel reception was helpful and they will organise taxis to take you to the theatre etc. but be warned you have to find your own taxi for the return trip and this is not always easy. Breakfast was adequate but again be warned the cooked food runs out towards the end of the breakfast period.

If there was a Pushka Inn in every city in the world, this is where I would stay! It is one of those places well worth recommending. It is very good value for money, very cute, very cosy and very well located. The staff is extremely friendly. There is no luxury but the place is very confortable. I thought breakfast was ok. Breakfast is served in the restaurant next door so having to go outside of the hotel is not idea but nothing to be put off by. I had dinner at the hotel restaurant a couple of nights and I really liked the food (the Russian salad is to die for!) and they offer guests a 20% discount, really good value.
I stayed in the single room. It was small, but perfectly acceptable and I was very confortable. The bathroom is very cute and of an acceptable size. My parents stayed at the standard bedroom and it was lovely and very large. I recommend any solo traveler to stay in the single bedroom.

To summarise, this is a really charming hotel and I fully recommend it.

The service from the staff at Pushka Inn was remarkable from before we arrived and untill we departed. We ordered transport through the hotel and were met by a helpfull driver at the airport and most friendly staff when arriving at the hotel. (This was my 31st trip to Russia and my experience is that front desk staff at Russian hotels are polite and friendly!) We had a nice room facing the canal. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast in the hotel's restaurant was excellent - we also had dinner there. In addition to the staff, location is the other main advantage for this hotel.
When leaving the hotel staff made taxi arrangements and agreed price. We enjoyed staying at Pushka Inn and definitely recommend this hotel.

The small hotel is located 5 minute walk from the hermitage, and a faces out onto the cannels.

As the title of the review states, the staff who work in the hotel, are very friendly engaging in conversation and try to help and support guests with their holiday. They smile also... which is not usual in russia I found...

The hotel has a separate restaurent/bar, which is owned by the hotel. Which serves the breakfast and is also open for meals on a night and daytime. On check in we arrived late about 9ish, so we desided to eat in the restaurent, as we were advised cutomers of the hotel get a 20% discount on the bill...... the food is tradional russian meals.... no complaints with the standard of food, but as with the whole of Russia, the meal was on the expensive side, a starter and main course, and a soft drink each, for two people came to 40 english pounds, with the discount...

The breakfast in the hotel was served till 10am, weekdays and 11am weekends. there was a good mix of hot and cold food...... and it looked nice and tased nice..... staff were friendly.... they had english newspapers in the restaurent though each day, they were a week old? shame.... :(

Our hotel room faced the cannel, a little problem if you are a light sleep, as the tour boats go round the cannel until 2am in the morning....... the wifii in the hotel is free, and has a strong signal...

We has a large shower in out room no bath..... shame we asked about an upgrade, but that was 23 english pounds a night, so opted against......

My main problem with the room, was the double bed?... was two single beds which had been pushed together, I know this is coman in some hotels..... so that was not the problem.... i didnt like the fact... that the beds apeared to have two mattresses on each bed...... meaning that when i moved in bed the mattresses, slipped and moved.... and made the beds uncomfortable....

The rooms had a sofa.... and were nicelly decorated.... room had a mini...bar in it, which was empty... dont know why, but can afford mini bar prices away......

I liked that the hotel had water coollers, on each floor, for both hot and cold water nice touch... in the hotel reception, there was a computer for guests to use, and a large collection of english tour guides and books....... each morning, there was a note on the bedroom door handle informing us of the weather forecast for the day.....

Our room was not clean on one day.... dont know why?.......we stayed for four nights and was clean on the other days......

I cant comment on the overall cost of the hotel as it was booked as part of a package.....
Overall I found the staff the major positive for the hotel and the management should be proud of them.... I would return to hotel.... but maybe, save a little harder and pay for a hotel with more facilities....

Room Tip: I ask for a room not facing the cannel....maybe pay more for an upgraded room with a bath

Dear Djboro,
Thanks a lot for your detailed comments.
We appreciate favorable reviews from all our guests and at the same time we are certainly ready to react on every defect or inconvenience. It is more effective if we know about some problem during guests’ staying and eliminate it immediately. We regret that your beds were fixed only after we’ve seen your review but not during your accommodation. Anyway, thank you for informing us.
Just to avoid misunderstanding we inform that there are no mini bars in our rooms, just refrigerators. We provide 24 hour room-service from our restaurant.
As for rooms’ categories all information is available on Reception desk, website and our partners’ sites. There are two types of rooms with the view to the Moyka river embankment, so the rate is different.
We are wishing you pleasant impressions during all your trips in the future and looking forward to welcome you again at Pushka Inn hotel.

Small scale hotel in the centre of St. Petersburg. Hotel decorated in a personal style. Smallest elevator I have ever been in (1 person + suitcase). Friendly staff. Good breakfast located in restaurant next door. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Could use some electrical outlets at the desk area. Curtains in room are nice but can not be closed very well resulting that spots on outside shine in the room. Coffee and tea in the room was missing.
