Location was great within steps to the Hermitage and the Church of the Spilled Blood. Cafes and shops too. However, unless you have secured a canal view room there are other hotels just as centrally located and much nicer. We were given room 303 with a view to air conditioners and the parking core (they call it "the courtyard"). Not only was the elevator noise bothersome but when the guy across the "courtyard" coughed it was like sleeping next to him. The breakfast "hot" dishes were hot because they were microwaved. Staff helpful and friendly. The canal view rooms (I peeked) were sooo much nicer with fireplaces and better furniture so stay there if you can reserve one, otherwise try another hotel.

Room Tip: Reserve a canal view room or stay elsewhere

Is the location or the enthusiastic efficiency the key to what makes this place great? We call it a tie. 6-day stay and we have nothing to woof about. Rooms 304 and 305 were large, pleasant, clean and came with canal views, the only noise being the speakers from passing boats. Included breakfast next door won't seem special until you encounter sticker shock of St. Pete restaurants.

The front desk is extremely helpful with any questions. It starts before you arrive with prompt answers to your emails. Everyone speaks English as well.

Great location -- just 5 minute walk to the Hermitage. Highly recommend.

We were in St. Petersburg during the G20, and the usual hotel choices were not available. With a little more searching we found the Pushka Inn, and were very pleased with our choice. The hotel is on the Moika river, across from the Japanese and down the street from the French and Dutch embassies. The Pushkin House museum where Pushkin died is right next door. The hotel has one room with a balcony, which we had, and it was lovely. Yes, as noted in other reviews, one can hear the tour boat guides, but it is not super loud, and also stops at about 10 pm. It is a lovely little balcony to sit with a cup of tea or coffee (hot water available down the hall at all times), and enjoy the world going by. When it is time for action, the hermitage is close by as are any number of other attractions. The Church of Spilled Blood is within walking distance as well, as is Nevsky Prospect. The breakfast next door was included, and there was a small buffet with several choices of bread, herring, salmon, cheeses, yoghurts, sausage etc., and eggs were cooked to order, if desired. The service was great, speedy and friendly. Also, there is an ATM inside this restaurant, a safe place to stock up for the day!

Room Tip: We loved the room with the balcony (105?)!

I had an economy room on the first floor that was so small I had to swivel to manipulate. My friends, a couple, had a luxurious room on the third floor. But both rooms were clean, well maintained and very nicely appointed. There was a water cooler to keep you supplied with water. It was so nice to not have to buy water. The breakfast, included, was fantastic too. There were plenty of restaurants, currency exchange, supermarket, etc. within close walking distance. I would definitely stay there again.
I loved my stay in St. Petersburg.

Room Tip: The rooms on the first floor are small.

Though it has been 2 weeks since staying at the Pushka Inn in St Petersburg, we consider it a memorable experience. From being greeted by the most helpful doorman eagerly assisting with our luggage, to the welcoming (and English-speaking) front desk staff, we were escorted to our room which featured comfortable beds with all of the amenities needed and wanted. The breakfast, included in the price of the room, was delicious, and included fresh fruits, lots of coffee/tea, a typical and delicious Russian breakfast including omelets made to order, and crepes as well. It was well located overlooking one of the many canals and very close to the Hermitage and walkable to many sites. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it highly.

Pushka Inn is a small gem of a hotel, staffed with friendly, helpful employees. It is situated in a great location, as other TripAdvisor reviewers have reported. The rooms are clean, spacious, the ceilings high, and the bathroom modern, decked out with terry cloth robes and slippers. Next door is its restaurant, where an ample breakfast buffet (with fresh-squeezed juices) is presented each morning.

One helpful tip: on our door the first morning an employee placed Russian travel certificates; we failed to ask about them until we checked out. You are supposed to carry those certificates with you while traveling around the city; they verify where you are staying while in Russia. (My friend and I didn't know about this since requirement since we had been traveling on a river cruise.)

I cannot recommend this hotel more highly, but it is not for those looking for opulence and high luxury. It is a charming local hotel with a professional, courteous staff.

We stayed at the Pushka Inn following a river boat trip from Moscow to St. Petersburg, We wanted a place that was centrally located, walkable to meals and sites, and a more Russian experience than a hotel owned by an American chain. Pushka Inn delivered on all these requirements, and exceeded our expectations. The rooms were impeccably clean, large, well appointed. We looked out onto the Moika Canal - very pretty! We walked to major sites such as St. Isaacs Cathedral, the Hermitage, the boat to Peterhof Palace and gardens, shopping on the Nevski Prospekt. We were a short taxi ride to the ballet at the Mariinsky Theater. The hotel staff arranged everything for us, gave us directions to wherever we wanted to go, and great advice about navigating St. Petersburg. We highly recommend this hotel.
