We booked this hotel based on Trip Advisor recommendations, and we were thrilled with the choice. The location was ideal--close to the Hermitage and Nevsky. The staff was extremely helpful and professional. In a city where very little English is spoken, we relied on the information we received from the staff. They were able to direct us to public transportation routes to Catherine's Palace, print out the tickets we needed, and best of all, arrange the airport transportation and provide an early morning (3 am) breakfast the day of our departure. The accommodations were very comfortable. We chose a comfort room facing the canal. The included breakfast was excellent. It is not a large, modern hotel, but a smaller, quaint hotel that attracts European and English-speaking travelers. Delightful! No complaints, we'd stay here again.

Just took a chance on booking (per TripAdvisor) and had a wonderful experience. Great location and especially enjoyed having the cozy little restaurant attached. Staff was very helpful and the location couldn't have been better. Would definitely sacrifice my points in a well-known chair to stay there again.

The Pushka Inn was not our first choice but proved to be a very good one. From our first contact to our departure the service was excellent.
We chose an attic room which, although without windows onto the canal, was plenty light enough with opening skylights. After all we never there long enough to enjoy the canal view. The room is described as a family apartment studio and has a separate sitting area with kitchen facilities so was plenty big enough for the two of us.
As others have said it is very well located in easy walking distance to everywhere we wanted to go. There was a local food and liquor shop a few doors along and a bank a bit further.
The restaurant next door was so good that we didn't bother searching for places for dinner and even provided freshly cooked egg dishes for the included breakfast. We found on our last day that there is an ATM in the restaurant.

We stayed here for a week in November 2011 (just now writing a review!) and loved it! Such a great value . Everything in St Petersburg is expensive but we were happy to spend money at Pushka for what we got. I highly recommend paying the slightly higher rate for the comfort rooms. They're gorgeous! Our friends stayed in the one bedroom apartment upstairs which was fantastic when we wanted to hang out but not leave the hotel. My mother-in-law was originally booked in a single room but quickly upgraded after seeing our room. I think those are the best value. As others have said, Pushka is really close to the Hermitage and so many other attractions. We also loved the adjacent restaurant - since we were there for an entire week and it was so cold outside, it was great to just go downstairs for dinner a couple of nights! Would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the comfort rooms!

Location was great within steps to the Hermitage and the Church of the Spilled Blood. Cafes and shops too. However, unless you have secured a canal view room there are other hotels just as centrally located and much nicer. We were given room 303 with a view to air conditioners and the parking core (they call it "the courtyard"). Not only was the elevator noise bothersome but when the guy across the "courtyard" coughed it was like sleeping next to him. The breakfast "hot" dishes were hot because they were microwaved. Staff helpful and friendly. The canal view rooms (I peeked) were sooo much nicer with fireplaces and better furniture so stay there if you can reserve one, otherwise try another hotel.

Room Tip: Reserve a canal view room or stay elsewhere

Is the location or the enthusiastic efficiency the key to what makes this place great? We call it a tie. 6-day stay and we have nothing to woof about. Rooms 304 and 305 were large, pleasant, clean and came with canal views, the only noise being the speakers from passing boats. Included breakfast next door won't seem special until you encounter sticker shock of St. Pete restaurants.

The front desk is extremely helpful with any questions. It starts before you arrive with prompt answers to your emails. Everyone speaks English as well.

Great location -- just 5 minute walk to the Hermitage. Highly recommend.

We were in St. Petersburg during the G20, and the usual hotel choices were not available. With a little more searching we found the Pushka Inn, and were very pleased with our choice. The hotel is on the Moika river, across from the Japanese and down the street from the French and Dutch embassies. The Pushkin House museum where Pushkin died is right next door. The hotel has one room with a balcony, which we had, and it was lovely. Yes, as noted in other reviews, one can hear the tour boat guides, but it is not super loud, and also stops at about 10 pm. It is a lovely little balcony to sit with a cup of tea or coffee (hot water available down the hall at all times), and enjoy the world going by. When it is time for action, the hermitage is close by as are any number of other attractions. The Church of Spilled Blood is within walking distance as well, as is Nevsky Prospect. The breakfast next door was included, and there was a small buffet with several choices of bread, herring, salmon, cheeses, yoghurts, sausage etc., and eggs were cooked to order, if desired. The service was great, speedy and friendly. Also, there is an ATM inside this restaurant, a safe place to stock up for the day!

Room Tip: We loved the room with the balcony (105?)!
