This is a rather intimate museum but it does have a fine selection of Faberge items well worth it if you are into Faberge. No need for a guide unless you want a lot more detail. The guide book includes most of the information you need

The privately owned Faberge Museum is housed in the beautifully restored Shuvalov Palace. Not just home to the Faberge eggs, the museum has thousands of exhibits, not all Faberge, beautifully displayed and of great historical interest. The museum isn't crowded, it's easy to take photos and definitely the best museum in St. Petersburg If you only have time(or inclination) for one museum visit this is the one!

Although there is a lot of fine work by other craftsmen in the museum the Faberge eggs are the highlight. The audio guide is very good and worth the extra 150 rubles. The building interiors are also very impressive.

Audio tour is great. One of the best museum displays I have ever seen - top notch. Spent several hours here - not only has the Faberge Eggs but many more magnificent items. They also have a wonderful Café where you can relax after visiting.
