AZIMUT Hotel Saint Petersburg

Azimut is a huge hotel with a massive renovation going on. That hammering and drilling might disturbe you if you have a bad luck. Renovation is a good thing.
I had a renovated room and it was lovely and very modern. I think we were the first or one of the first ones staying in that room as the tv had still the cover plastic on.
The final cleaning after renovation wasn't done very well. There was dust everywhere. Having that said I was happy to have a renovated room. The room wasn't huge but it had a nice hook-wall where to hang up the clothes as well as a closet.
Shower was excellent although you had to wait a while to get warm water. Toilet was clean and modern.
We stayed in room 12006 that was not facing the river. Room was very quiet but the air in it was bad even after we put the air ventilation to full. The windows did open which was nice and helped with the air problem.
Azimut hotel is a bit too far from the centrum and we found almost nothing interesting in the nearby.
There is a supermarket close by and the hotel's restaurant has marvellous food in it.
The sky bar is also under renovation at the moment.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room. As far as I know the whole 12th floor is renovated now.

This hotel is a classic large three star soviet style hotel and as such you get what you pay for; if you want a better hotel - you simply pay more money and go elsewhere

Popular with Russian visitors to St Petersburg - see the coaches parked outside the front door for example. The hotel is OK - the draw backs being the distance from the centre - it is 10+ mins to walk to the nearest metro (3 stops to the centre) and/ or buses etc for foreign visitors can be difficult to comprehend, walking is possible but tiring on hard pavements and secondly there is only one restaurant nearby (cross the road to the small supermarket - tomatoes displayed on the window - where you can purchase extra water) - cross the canal and straight on for 2 mins.

There is a wide choice for breakfast - no one can complain they have to eat the same each day which includes fruit, dried fruit, cheese, eggs, bread & many others. The best time to visit is as it opens at 7.00am- tables are clean & tidy and it is relatively quiet. Dinner can be had in the "posh" end - service somewhat erratic. Bar & seating areas on the ground floor are fine, although it can be busy, at the time of writing the top floor bar was being renovated.

Other renovations include rooms and two out of six lifts. The renovated rooms are small but quiet, shower good & plenty of hot water, safe, modern TV with good selection of world programmes. Non smoking. Yes the outside window is dirty! Beds reasonable.

Charge for leaving luggage is 50R. However, there is considerable need for improvement with reception - both in numbers & attitude. If you arrive at the wrong time - you could be in for a long wait.

In the end you pay your money & you make your choice!

We stayed at Azimut hotel few days ago. We stayed for 4 days and would have loved staying at a better hotel in St.Petersburg.
The hotel has reception, bar and restaurant in pretty much one congested area on the ground floor and two wings (East & West). Its like a old soviet era structure without the architecture. Essentially, a big tall block of building.
We reached at 1000hrs and our reservation voucher mentioned our booking time since 1200hrs.
The reception told us that the room would be available only at 1400hrs. There was hardly anybody who understood English. Thankfully our friend knew Russian and he fought with the reception staff when they agreed to give the room at 1200hrs.

The entire ground floor was full of people waiting to check-in. The room we got was basic. Our booking said we were booked for superior double. There was no coffee maker in the room. It has small bathroom and no cub-board.

The AC was not working at all and no matter what temperature we set in, it was very hot.
The cleaning staff did not replace the water bottles in the room on any of the days and we had to go and ask for it every time.

The breakfast was same everyday, which was such a big turn off, since we stayed for 4 days.

The location is good, and its over a km to walk to the nearest metro station - technology institute. On that road you can find McDonalds, Subway, Burger King.

The beds are not comfortable and sleep quality is poor.

Try and avoid the hotel if you do not know Russian.

Room Tip: Choose the East wing and facing the main road.

The nicest thing I can say about tis hotel is that it is very tired. Rooms are small and bathrooms tiny. No amenities. My room was dirty, with stained carpets and bedspread, dirty windows, visible mold in the bathroom. There is construction in progress so with luck, the hotel will get much needed facelift.
The security entry gate was broken, forcing taxis to deposit guests and luggage right on the street, and the hotel lost the reservation for our dinner, creating an additional 1/2 hour wait before it was straightened out.
A large lobby serves as the communal meeting space. Red leather furniture is grimy and tables are scarred.
A large buffet breakfast and the scene is pure chaos. Offerings are heavy on carbohydrates.
Stay away from this hotel if you can!

Absolutely horrible place - expensive, but havoc is everywhere.

The only strong point is a location close to city center.

Seems to be that Management of hotel ignoring the actual conditions of rooms

Anyway, you should chose the better one to stay

The hotel is located not far away from city center and from subway station. The service overall was not bad (taking into consideration that it is 3* hotel), but the building itself is huge and there are some floors with renovated guestrooms and some floors with very old rooms. We had absolutely brand new room, which even smelled as renovation and was not completely cleaned after that. But the room was good enough and pretty comfortable. The other part of hotels - questionable... Especially the average type of guests staying there. I would choose another hotel for my next stay in St. Petersburg, but overall the hotel is not bad for 3* product and most probably will be much better when the renovation is completed.

Room Tip: Select renovated rooms for your stay

Cost is adequate for this tourist hotel. Located not that very centrally, it is not good for people like me, who want to walk around the city center. One need to walk about 5 blocks to get to Metro station. After that the city center in at a short hand - just two stops of Metro.
The rooms are small, the equipment is old fashioned, but works. Breakfast is OK if you are looking for the calories and protein, but not for variety. My experience included the all around the night listening to the conversation in the next room. People did not shout, not produce any other noise - just spoke...
