“A quick lunch on my own”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

Popped in here before a meeting for a quick lunch and had the 3 course special which was pretty filling! Had genuine Russian food in an unusual setting. This was very good value and I only wished I had more time to linger there. Service was OK although one waitress a little surly
Unusual setting

“Great place”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

We were attracted by the name and were pleasantly surprised by the interior design. You can find old styled furniture, books, and take a picture with Lenin ;)
The Idiot offers a wide range of Russian cuisine. Service is nice and quick.

“Good food”
Reviewed 19 July 2014 via mobile

This place is nice and offers good food at reasonable if not cheap, prices. Service is very friendly and you will be offered a good selection of Russian cuisine. Not the best in say petersburg but very pleasing overall.

“Great restaurant, hidden away near St Isaac's Cathedral”
Reviewed 15 July 2014

We ate at Cafe Idiot twice in our five days in St Petersburg and loved it. Good atmosphere, in quite a dark but atmospheric basement (like most of the restaurants in the city in fact) and the restaurant spreads across several smaller rooms so it's fairly quiet, quirky decor, friendly service, excellent food and very reasonably-priced. Really appreciated the complimentary shot of vodka too - supposedly this only comes if you eat between 5 and 7 in the evening but we were offered this both times.
The food's great and also really well-presented. During the course of two full meals we had their green salad with avocado and orange, an Idiot 'Sailor' dish (with seafood), the pogarka (a delicious potato and onion dish), mushroom and also cheese-stuffed pelmeni (dumplings) and more, and the sweet pancakes to finish (lots of cream and jam!), and enjoyed their local beer and two sorts of vodka.
The only slight downside was the slow service, but the staff are really friendly and the delays were clearly a result of Cafe Idiot's popularity. We'd be very keen to come back here on a return visit.....

“Kitchen opened until 11 pm!”
Reviewed 15 July 2014

We were attracted by the name, has convinced us a review when told that they were brought here by local people, but the thing that won us over is the fascinating atmosphere.

Low and soft light, period style, english menu and nice staff and a Russian vodka offered at the end. Whatelse?

We ate typical Salmon Pelmeni and a Stroganoff Beef, wine and bread, for about 3.000 rubles (60€).

A good value for money and, as I said at the beginning, the restaurant close at 12 pm, but the kitchen is opened until 11 pm and it's not so ordinary in St. Petersburg.
