“Nice rooms and good service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 February 2014

Location of the hotel is OK, everything is near. Food is delicious, prices quite OK, bar is opening late in the evening/early in the morning :). There is no heating in the bathroom (no radiators). Rooms are spacious and clean.

To sum up, before I go into details: good location, good service, awful breakfast with ok coffee, not worth the price.

This is a great hotel! It is conveniently located in the city centre, yet just a bit off the busy and noisy streets. The staff is very friendly and the service is good. Room service obeys the "do not disturb" sign, which is a rare thing (from my experience, even in Europe staff usually has a bad habit of entering the room despite any warnings...). The rooms are kept very clean.

Even though it's good, it is not worth the price you're paying. The furniture feels very cheap, so as the sink and other bathroom equipment. The breakfast is terrible.

Let me put it in a standalone paragraph, so that everyone sees it:

The breakfast is terrible!

Coffee was okay, so were some of the sweets and red peppers, but everything else was either not fresh, or you would never consider trying it. Who on earth has marinated fish for breakfast? Or pasta? Or steamed vegetables and boiled potatoes? Perhaps the people of Tatarstan Republic do, but I very much doubt their guests share that passion...

Tomatoes and cucumbers were dried up. There was no fruit. At all. Not even a single canned peach.

This hotel is exploiting the fact that it is one of the few good hotels in the city, even though it's not worth the price. However, you can find a hotel that's just a little bit further from city centre, with equally bad breakfast, but for about 2/3 of the price.

The hotel is located in downtown Kazan, very close to the University and the main pedestrian street. Their standard room is very clean and fairly big and the bathroom is also adequate size. In general, not only the rooms but the entire hotel makes a very good and modern impression. It is a nice touch that the safe in the room can even fit a 15 inch laptop. They also offer complimentary internet, though it is not too fast. For breakfast a fairly big choice is available, however it may be too heavy for some people. Although not perfect but the staff at the reception does speak English. I would highly recommend to stay in this hotel.

Enormous studio room, a jacuzzi, nice staff, great location. A bit noisy at night - a night club nearby (we had a room facing a cortyard).

Positives: very clean, very helpful staff (their English is quite poor, however), buffet breakfast with good choice of foods, close to the city centre and University. Room range from adequately big to very big. A number of various pieces of furniture (well matched) makes the stay comfortable.

Negatives: rooms can be noisy (one side looks over a very busy street, the other is situated over the restaurant where there are loud weddings on Sats, good news: they really DO end at 11 p.m.).

Room Tip: Rooms on Universitetskaya street are quieter than on Pushkina street. Top floor may have ventillatio...

I could recommend their Studio rooms as a good choice for couples (king size bed an jacuzzi were great).
Our friends' standart double were simple but nice also.

We stayed for three nights and we enjoyed it as much as we could.
First, the hotel is brand new, it only opened one year ago. Everything is sparkling clean, there's a lady in the lobby that washes the floor and the door after each visitor, which I found very impressive.
The reception personnel is very friendly and helpful, they arranged a couple of sightseeing tours for us that we enjoyed a lot and they were always eager to help, which isn't so typical for Russian hotels reception staff. I booked my stay on-line and the system gave me the wrong price, when arrived I paid this amount of money but then I found out that we should have got a weekend/holiday rate which is lower, so I checked with the reception and they actually returned me the amount of money I overpaid, which was a nice surprise!
The room was HUGE. Judging by the hotel plan it was the smallest they have which is unbelievable cause there's so much space and the bathroom is also quite big. It does have soap and shower gel, but make sure to bring your own cream/body lotion. We had a room facing Pushkin street so we had a great view as well, the reception lady told us it's not the quieter side of the hotel but we didn't hear any noise at all. Everything is impeccably clean and new. We had very comfy twin beds that are almost double.
The hotel is on a small hill so you have to climb up and down a bit but it's not that steep at all, however can be slippery in winter as in Kazan they don't seem to clean the snow off the streets much )
The breakfast is probably the only downside of the hotel but if you don't expect Ritz or Hilton sort of food than it's probably ok, you won't be starving that's for sure. We also tried the lunch at the hotel but I wouldn't recommend it, there are so many nice places to eat nearby.
The location is very good, it's a quiet lane in between two main streets and about 10-15 minutes walk to the Kremlin, which is a must with its orthodox cathedrals and a beautiful mosque. Plenty of good restaurants around, we enjoyed the Italian one down in Pushkin street and also the restaurant in Shalyapin Hotel is great, very high quality food but the prices significantly lower than in Moscow.
Kazan is a wonderful city with orthodox and muslim culture mixed together, a real gem, when we were there it was freezing cold around -25C but I think in summer it's even more beautiful. We made a half day trip to Sviyazhsk, a charming historical town situated on an island and to Raif monastery, both well worth the visit and the scenery around Sviyazhsk is quite spectacular.
