The service on the desk is like in the old U.S.S.R.: it takes many time to receive the key of the room and they ask more papers than where ever: they even ask proof of registration in other cities?!
Without this, it's an acceptable hotel: the rooms are o.k., without frills, but everthing (shower, lights, heating) is working well. Breakfast was acceptable and like many Russian hotels: a buffet with a good choise, but poor quality of the products.
Location is in front of many tram stops and trams running frequently.
I tried also the restaurant: they serve only import beer and the food was also not memorable, but it tooks ages before we receive anything... Really a typical hotel to forget quickly, even the most important (rooms) were ok.

One of the striking example when the local hotel is very expensive but the service and the rooms are still on the Soviet level. The hotel is twice overpriced and it is a result of a still low level of the competition in the area. I wonder whet it finally stops?

Stayed here in June of 2012. Rooms are average, service was poor - but they tried their best. When we arrived, there was one person working the desk and 6 people waiting to check in. Each check in took over 10 minutes, not exactly the type of wait you want after flying all day to get to Pyatigorsk. The clerk spoke just enough English to get by. The rooms were on par with other hotels in the region, but there were no English language TV stations. Wi-fi was available, but the password page didn't automatically pop up. The IT tech person had to give us the DSN number in order to find this page...Once logged in, connections were unreliable. On several occasions I stopped by reception only to find that no one spoke English. Breakfast was typical Russian breakfast, but they did have an egg dish, musli cereal and yogurt as well. The hotel is located next to the university and is convenient for that purpose but not much else. Public transport and taxis are cheap and easy to use, but was a long walk to the city center.

All things being equal, I would choose the Intourist over the Beshtau. The hotels are very similar in quality, but they are better equipped to deal with English speakers and their location can't be beat - just minutes walk to virtually everywhere in the city.

Room Tip: Even numbered rooms have an exellent view of Mt. Elbrus

Fantastic view to Beshtau and Mashuk mountains! But don't ask for Wi-Fi in your room as they advertise on the web-site! To get your internet connection you will have to go down to the lobby each and every time! If someone is drinking, dancing and smoking next to you don't complain! Breakfast is rather awful with heavy food whether you like it or not. But rooms are nice and well eqiupped exept for bathroom which is really stretchy...

Room Tip: Choose Elbrus view

This large multi-storey hotel is conveniently located in the district of Pyatigorsk called 'Belaya Romashka' (translated as 'White Daisy' from Russian). It is very close to downtown (about 10-15 min. by public transport or car, 20-30 min. on foot) and there are always plenty of cabs waiting nearby and several bus/tram stops (going to different directions) are literally on the doorstep. Pyatigorsk has a well-developed public transport sector, so getting around without a car is easy.
The hotel has just been extensively renovated - it is very European-like, with double glazing throughout, rooms with all necessary amenities, a large restaurant, and conference rooms.
I think that Westerners visiting the town will not feel out of place in this hotel. With the renovation work it looks much more up-to-date than, say, Intourist (the only place where foreigners could stay in Soviet times).
Opposite to Beshtau Hotel is a large shopping centre with a food court, which consisits of different restaurants/cafes (including pizzeria, burger place and an Italian restaurant). There is also a food supermarket in the building and a travel agency.
