This hill has a lot of monuments, Motherland calls, the biggest, the Eternal flame is very impressive and then this monuments up 200 steps, a step for each day of the battle in Stalingrad now Volgograd. In Stalingrad they stopped the Germans (Natzy). Over 1 million were killed. This world war 2 is still very fresh in peoples minds in Volgograd. Almost everybody I spoke to had a family member killed in this battle....

The meaning of memorial is too high for our nation and it is impossible to compare it with anything. Being in one step from total extermination the whole destroyed country, every person gave the last value they had to build it. You can feel and smell the Soviet invincible spirit in every santimeter of the memorial and understand how friendly and strong this nation is... Welcome to Stalingrad!!!

the motherland calls is a must see attraction in Volgograd. The statue is huge and i was informed its the largest free standing statue in the world. it is breathe taking and all the monuments around it is cool
ensure you are around for the change of guard at the the memorial. also take awesome pictures of Volgograd and the Volga river from the base of the statue
