“Was the charm ever really on”
Reviewed 24 May 2012

I had high hopes of visiting Yekaterinburg on business and was hoping for the opportunity to settle in and get some isolated business time. Since being here I have not been able to break out of the mother country mold way of doing things.
On the surface, the hotel and room appear modern and comfortable but a series of problems testify otherwise. The floors are never vacuumed. The "media center" in my room never worked. The high speed cable to connect to in internet (rj45) jack would not accept the supplied cable. It looked like a (rj11). The remote on the TV would not allow selection of any input from the "media center".
There was absolutely no counter space and completely unworkable chair. Let alone a chair that you could relax in. The bed was passable but with only square pillows. The very small mini bar would not cool the 4 bottles of high cost product, let alone have any room for personal products that one might want to keep. And while we are on the subject of cooling, the air conditioning had not officially been turned on yet (prior to June) and so a minor heat wave made the room unbearable.
The morning breakfasts included were nice and I would endorse them. The staff was kind and as responsive as can be expected.
I was trying to keep an open mind about the level of hotel but attention to detail is obviously not strong with this one.

Cher Monsieur,

Thank you for taking the time to write about your stay in the Novotel Yekaterinburg Centre.

We are glad to hear that you enjoyed our breakfast and the service provided by the team, but we are so sorry to hear about an experience which left you not totally satisfied. We have noted every point you have raised. With your valuable comments, we are moving towards a better direction in order to improve both our products and services. We have ordered different pillows that your could ask during your next day by calling the housekeeping departement, the media center system will be totally revised by the middle of June to make sure that such bad experience will repeat in the future and at any time you can call room service or go to our bar opened 24/24 to enjoy a relaxing and very cold drink .

Thank you so much again for your feedback. We are looking forward to an opportunity to welcome you back to experience the Novotel Yekaterinburg center in other elements.

I have stayed in the hotel on business trip. The hotel is very new, which is positive for me. All rooms still look fresh, not old+style furniture of worn surfaces.

But location could be better. Next to the hotel is a construction site. It was not loud, but creates strange and not a cozy feeling. One can easily walk to city center from the hotel, but those who are scared of walking through dark streets in Russia, should better select hotel on main street. And there is no beautiful view to expect from the hotel. Which is ok for me, when I am on business trip, but I think for holiday experience there are other options.

Wifi worked well. Personnel was friendly and helpful, all spoke good English. Sometimes more discussion was needed, but still in the end they have tried to solve any problems. For example we have booked transportation and guided tour from there. Both were good experience.

Chere Madame,

thank you for your valuable comments about your stay at Novotel Yekaterinburg Center. The team is glad that the room ,the service and the different services that we are offering were all to your satisfaction.

For your next visit we will make sure that you could get a room on the highest floor with a view on the city.

As the Novotel is located in the city center, few constructions are actually on process but as you noticed, without disturbing our valuable guests. We can assure you that the location is very safe and walking to the main street is without any risk.

we hope to see you among us very soon !

Best regards

The hotel is relatatively new and would tick all the four star boxes but not exceed any expectations.

The rooms are simple and small but modern and adequate.

My dominant memory of the hotel is unfortunately the appalling smell of the lobby akin to a sewerage leak and only gripe is the hot water being out of action on one of two days.

Cher Monsieur,

It is with great pleasure that we welcome your comments for your stay in the Novotel Yekaterinburg Centre.

We are sorry to hear that some aspects of our service was not to your satisfaction with regards to the water and the bad smell in the lobby. The city admistration was doing some tests and the entire city had problems with the water.

Rest assured that the necessary actions have been taken to remediate to these areas in order to enhance each of our guest stay.

We hope to welcome you again in Novotel Yekaterinburg Centre.

Hotel is newly built, so, all rooms and amenities are fresh&clean. Surroundings are not that good( construction works all around), but, on the other hand, there's a lot of good bars nearby (Tinkoff, Blackberry bar, bootleggers bar, etc.) where you can take your dose of sleeping mixtures. Besides, hotel rates can be compared to that in European Novotels (guys in charge of pricing in Moscow and St.P. Novotels really got something wrong about the whole Novotel idea - around 11k for standard room - crazy).

Stayed at Novotel for three nights in Feb 2012 for a conference at the British Consulate. Yekaterinburg is a fantastic city and the hotel was great. Friendly, service-minded staff who spoke good English. The hotel is centrally located, but is currently surrounded by building sites (no noise though), so there is no nice view. The British and American consulates are located in the building next door.
The room was large, clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was also clean and nice. The free WiFi worked brilliantly. The breakfast buffet was pretty nice, but the tea water was only luke warm. The restaurant was excellent - Mediterranean kitchen, with a couple of Russian dishes - but a bit expensive.
The hotel provides a great map over the sights in the city - it's really easy to walk around and feels safe. Overall people in town were very nice and friendly.
Go to Mammas Big House on Lenina Ave for a casual lunch/coffee/dinner (English menu available). Can also warmly recommend the traditional Russian restaurant Podkowa, which is excellent.
If you visit during winter, don't miss the ice sculptures at the main square and around the Church-on-the-Blood. Fantastic!
