Jubail Hotel

Review of Karan Hotel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 25 Jan 2013
Karan Hotel is about 5 years old, in an excellent location in Fanateer district on the Corniche, with a sea view. It is very Arabic in decor, lots of old American cars decorate the reception and lobby area (mostly 1960's vintage) with an occassional class Mercedes and UK cars.
They have two restaurants to chose from, mixed menus but of course no wines or beers.
Food is good quality, reasonably priced and the menu varied, service is fair but not 4 Star, which the hotel is meant to be. They also have spacious executive suites and apartments for long term stays, with small kitchen and lounges for self catering, room service is available.

Not much to do in the hotel, they have Health Rooms for men and women, separate of course.
It doubles as a conference center and local companies use their facilities for meetings etc.
Within the complex there are convenience store, mens hairdressers, laundry, dive shop,
Room rates are high but there is little alternative accommodation in Jubail other than the Intercontinental which is a five star establishment with 5 star prices but more facilities to use.

A number of executive suites and apartments are being built adjacent to the Karan along with a number of restaurants, Fuddrockers, Fish and a Subway sandwich places, a shooping are around the harbor has been built with a variety of shops, banks and othe restaurants, Steakhouses, Pizza and Burger places and a supermarket/mall area.

It attracts locals for a weekend by the sea but no real beaches or sailing other than small cruises along the coast or to local islands for diving or fishing. Does not compare to Mediterranean ports or resorts that focus on attracting tourists.
Date of stay: December 2012
Room Tip: Sea room good but avoid rooms overlooking the Mosque, early prayer call can be as early as 03:40am.

I stayed in the hotel for four nights whilst running an event at the Karan. The suite I stayed in had a generous amount of space and was very comfortable. The gym is well equipped with an enthusiastic manager, Mike. The combination of few distractions, a good gym and non fermented grape juice meant I had a remarkably healthy stay ;)

This easily is the best hotel in Jobail for those who don't mind paying a premium for their stay. You can get beautiful sea view from 2 bedrooms, the rooms are very spacious, properly air conditioned with climate control, clean and tidy. You have iron facility, good wardrobe along with the suite. Though I was not satisfied with the internet speed, but it is manageable. The food is amazing - but really expensive. You can spend some good time in there, they have showcased some old cars. They provide free juice (mango and grape) and put them in refrigerator every day. On the whole, happy with the stay.

Great hotel in Arabic style. Take a rest from your day and lay down in the arabic style cuchions just when you enter the hotel and take a cup of tea or coffee for free. This every day! Friendly staff. spacious rooms - in fact you get a little flat with microwave, fridge, stove, kettle dishes etc. a fully equiped kitchen, living room bed room bath room. They will supply fresh fruit juices into your fridge every day for free.
Free end fast ! Internet wireless in the whole hotel. Great breakfast buffet.
The hotel gives you insight in early days in the Kingdom with many many photograps, displayed in the hotel. Old cars and radios, like a museum. Shopping malls and restaurants close by. For Snorkeling and Scuba diving, also a shop with PADI doing trips. There is a hotel swimmingpool, but I have not had the time to see it. It is the best hotel in town.

I was at the Karan Hotel for three weeks last year and I'm back again for a week. Staying here and teaching Environmental courses. The hotel is well run and the staff have always proved very helpful. The room on both passions has been clean and of a good size with a reasonably equipped kitchen. There is a small shop outside the hotel where it's possible to buy bread and other items with a larger supermarket a few minutes walk away at Fanateer Mall. When I was here for three weeks I did most of my own cooking for evening meals and breakfast which was really nice. The restaurants are good though it gets a bit boring after three weeks.

I'm always happy to return to the Karan and there is a dive shop close by that I hope to go diving with if I get some spare time.

Room tip: Not actually had a bad room here.
