“Beauty everywhere”

The concept of the garden reflects the three oceans, shown through lakes and the five continents through greenhouse buildings of which each stores the plants from one of the five continents. In February / March many plants are blooming and the beauty of the different colours exposed by their blossoms is breathtaking. Due to the sheer size of the park it is good to spare a whole day. The lakeside restaurant serves delicious food and a romantic terrace besides the lake. Various theme parks in the park are connected to each other and can be reached either by walking, renting a bike for up to four persons or using the minibuses which run to scheduled times from collecting points.

“I love botanical gardens!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 May 2014

We paid 50 yuan entrance fee each to see the greenhouse plants. If you do not want to take any photos of huge cactuses or a waterfall, then miss it and pay only 20 yuan.
The air is so clean there. You feel like you are in a tropical rainforest. The park is very beautiful. If you are tired of visiting concrete jungle, go to this park. It's amazing.
If you are on budget, you can take a metro, orange line 3 to Guangzhou couch terminal. If you take the exit where the coach terminal itself is, then go across the road and take bus 28 to 广州植物园南站(guangzhou zhiwu yuan nan zhan)
You can rent a 4-wheel cab to ride it with your friends or family.
The place has 3 greenhouses, lakes with golden fish, an attraction area with rides for children, a bbq place, palm trees area, medical plants area as well. There were lots of just married couples having wedding photo sessions. I felt tired but happy after visiting. Next time I am gonna take meat to have bbq there for sure!

“Plants of the World”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 October 2013

I visited these botanical gardens 2 summers ago. It was a science teacher's dream come true. Exhibits are organized by biomes. The desert biome had the largest collection of stone plants I have ever seen. Saw rare and exotic plants of Asia, including the face seed fruit tree - this edible fruit yields a seed pit that resembles a space alien- and of course the lotus plants that are luminous. Totally worth the cost of admission. Bring your passport for proof of age and remember to ask for the senior discount. Wear light comfortable clothing, good walking shoes, sun hat or sunbrella.

“Hidden treasure”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2013

I've lived in Guangdong province for many years and had never heard of this place until a student alerted me to it. It should be much better known. Not quite up there with Kew, Singapore or Hamilton, NZ, but a very large and interesting collection none-the-less.
In the humid summer conditions it is well worth the 10 yuan extra for the electric car to get an orientation to the extensive gardens. You would need 2-3 hours to walk around but can get a few nice photos in 1-2 hours.

“Different plantation themes packed in one place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 May 2013 via mobile

We spent a weekend near the Guangzhou Science City, so decided to visit some greenery in the vicinity (15 mins radius).

This Botonical Garden is said to be the 2nd largest one in China, indeed no joke. You may want to consider renting a bike inside, better if you can bring your own along.

The park is not fancy, but does have a nice collection of different plantations. Strolling through the pathways of various theme is quite nice. Beware to wear your mosquito repellent.

If you plan to visit more than once in a month, you may want to bring along a personal photo and get a monthly pass, which is just RMB 15 more than a single entry ticket, quite worth it.

You may also want to check the blooming seasons of different flowers when planning a trip over there.
