Enjoyed the historical setup and the lighting in the park. Nice walk to cruise around the area and some shops if you are in the mood to bring back some cultural souvenirs.

Good potential, but victim to its own popularity.
Like most places in China, if it's too good, then crowds of tourists swarm all over over it, thus resulting in losing te aspects that make up it's attractiveness.
Avoid weekends or national holidays, and I am sure this place would be so nice.
Historic buildings along it's banks, colourful flowers growing on boat roof-tops, a view to a more romantic past, "Lizhi Wan" is good for a stroll with or without family to get away from the modern & hectic life of Guangzhou.
The down sides, apart from the crowds: too small (you will wish it was bigger), a little too touristic (it reminds me of some of the small ancient towns & villages across China destroyed by mass-tourism).

When visiting Lychee Bay park (in Liwan district of GZ) you must hire a colourfully decorated boat (groups of about 10 people before boat sets off) and go for a cruise around the park and the adjoining Liwan lake. At the moment, there is some construction work taking place in the park itself which hopefully should be completed next year? Ensure you bring a camera as there are plenty of photo opportunities.

A real public park. It should be visited both at night and during the daytime. It's not a park to find peace, there is a park to experience the Chinese people and their hobbies. There is everything from singing, dancing, Thi Chi and games. The park is an experience of light and color at night. It is more exotic after darknes. But at daytime is more "alive", with a lots of activities. Possibility to rent boats to sail a trip on the lakes. Or take a boat trip with one of the larger boats with driver. A park we spent a lot of time in, it's big and should be experienced.
