“An exceptinally good hotel”

Stayed at China Hotel, on about ten visits to Guangzhou last year. Each time, found the place impeccable. Breakfast is sumptuous and elaborate. In room dining is not as good but there are a large number of eating places in the vicinity A very professionally run hotel, overall it is excellent both in terms of service and facilities.

Room Tip: Select a room facing garden or pool, which are away from the main roads( on two sides) , to reduce t...

We stayed at this property for an adoption trip. In all fairness, we came from the Beijing Marriott City Wall and the Taiyuan Wanda Vista -- both stellar hotels. The China Hotel was definitely a step down. We paid for connecting rooms (as a family of 6 we needed them!) and had adequate space. The hotel is definitely older (and smelly in many parts) but they are working hard to keep it updated and clean. We have no complaints with the quality of the rooms. There was construction going on outside our windows, but it seems all of China is under construction and it didn't interfere with our sleep. We enjoyed the concierge level every morning and evening, really making our experience at the hotel wonderful. We used room service a few times and found the food to be just okay (as room service usually is). We ate at the hotel restaurant serving local food (can't remember the name) family-style and enjoyed the food immensely. The hotel has a great outdoor pool which we used every day. All in all, this is a solid hotel choice in Guangzhou. However, if we go back we would probably try the other Marriott.

My family and I (2 adults and 2 kids) spent a total of 4 comfortable nights in this Marriott property recently on a stopover to Europe from Australia. As mentioned by previous reviewers, this is the cheaper of the 2 Marriotts in Guangzhou, and is the one that is not as centrally located.

However my wife and daughter did discover a busy clothes shopping mall just 3 metro stops to the south of the metro station underneath this hotel. And if Yum Cha is your thing, I'd heartily recommend the Hong Xing Seafood restaurant on Huan Shi Zong Road less than 5 minutes away by taxi (this restaurant is good for English speakers as you can just point to what you want at their serving areas). There's LuXi park across the road where the kids can paddle a boat and feed the fish.

The double beds were of good size and softly comfortable, unlike other China hotels where the beds can be a bit hard. Air-conditioning and a large swimming pool help combat the Guangzhou humidity. The hotel accommodated my request for an early check-in due to the early arrival of my flight.

On the negative side, the toilets by their small design have a tendency to get blocked easily by toilet paper. Also, Wi-Fi is only free of charge in the lobby - you have to pay a supplement to get this in your room.

Overall, not bad, and certainly a contender for a repeat stay in the future.

We stayed here for a week during an adoption trip and we got the jr Executive Suite. It was so worth the extra money. We are breakfast at the exec lounge every day. We also had dinner and cocktails there every night. Tea and cookies in the afternoon. My daughter was sick and I would have lost my mind without this lounge. We made many friends up there and it was a close group. The hotel was great and would defiantly stay there again!!

The China hotel is perfectly located in Guangzou. Good value outside of the Canton Fair Time.
Service is always good. Food street restaurant is excellent, especially the Hot Sour Soup with congealed pigs blood....Sounds awful but damn tasty

This is a very good hotel with excellent services priced right. The staff is friendly and the food is very good, especially the local dishes. It is worth staying there. The rooms are spacious and very clean, the beds are very good and the in- room service is fast.

I am writing this review based on expectation of Marriott Hotel, and the expectation is high. China Hotel is a category 3 hotel within the ranking of the Marriott system. The highest category is 6 where most he JW Marriott or Ritz Carlton hotels belong. China Hotel has been around for ages, the interior of the hotel has been renovation recently. So its fairly modern and comfortable. The room I stated in on the small size, but still comfortable. The exterior of the hotel looks quited aged. There is a canopy covering most of the outside walkway, during heavy rain, its leaking everywhere and you will still need an umbrella to walk through the walkway.
I selected the China Hotel because of its location and transportation option. If you are coming from Hong Kong, there are a number of cross border buses that stops right at the door of the China Hotel. In addition, the exit/entrance to the subway line #2 is right outside the hotel as well. You can easily reach different parts of Guangzhou by their well developed subway system.
My state with the hotel is tarnished by the lack of attention to details. I booked the stay for 3 adults. When I checked in, I have reminded the front desk clerk that we will need 3 sets of toiletries, towel etc., and the clerk said it will be taken care of. We went out for sightseeing in the city and return in the evening to find an additional set of tooth bush, bottle water placed on desk. That's all good, until we went to take shower and discovered there was still only two sets of towels. Only 2 cups for brushing teeth. Furthermore, we also discovered that the bathroom door could not be closed properly. Its the sliding type door. The entrance foyer (inside the room) light bulb was missing. It is the little things that distinguish a great hotel from a good hotel. I expect a Marriott to be great hotel, right now it has earned its marks as a good hotel only.
