My husband and I travelled here from Hong Kong by taking the ferry from the china ferry terminal in TST to Panyu. This is a 2 hour ferry journey and was quite pleasant. When you arrive at the ferry port there are various free shuttle buses to different hotels in the area. We got on the one to Chime Long and it took around 40 minutes with one other hotel drop off on the way. First impression of hotel - oh my god!!! its massive. The hotel is probabably one of the biggest i have ever been in and ive been in some pretty big hotels in las vegas. Must be over 5000 rooms. Check in was fast and we also picked up our theme park tickets from a desk in the lobby and that was quick too. It was a looooooong walk from lobby to our room but it was fine. The room itself was a plaza room. Quite large, comfy bed and nice bathroom. The only thing I thought was bad about the room was that it had a tiny balcony. No room for seats - only room enough to stand. I just dont see the point of balconies like that - either make it big enough to sit out on or dont bother!!!
First night in the hotel we went around all the bars and restauants and were a little disappointed. We are westerners so kind of need bars/entertainment/beer in the evenings or we get a bit bored. The only decent bar is the lobby bar and only because they serve ice cold tiger beer and you get to sit and watch the gorgeous white tigers play about on the other side of the window. Food options are ok - we ate in the japanese restaurant one night and just ended up having a sandwich in the bar the second night. We are not fussy eaters but we just didnt think the dining options were all that great and the bars lacked atmosphere.
The theme parks were fantastic. The water park was within a couple of minutes walking distance (there is a hotel guest only entrance). All the rides are great - comparable, if not better than any water park i have been to in America (Wet and Wile/Disney). Queues were not too long. The park is open till 10pm but unfortunately the day we went there was a thunderstorm so we had to leave at around 5.30 as all the rides closed down. The second day we went to the theme park (paradise). Rides are good but the queues were quite long. The park seemed to be fairly empty but the queue for the 10 loop roller coaster took around 1 hour. Their queue management is not great. The roller coaster type rides have 2 cars that they can send around which would mean there would be less queue but for whatever reason, they choose to only operate one car and that means big queues which are not pleasant in the heat. There was one ride which was shut down for maintenance which was disappointing and we also didnt have time to see the live action stunt show which looked good. We had to leave the park early so we could get the 5pm shuttle back to the ferry port for the 6pm ferry back to Hong Kong. All in all, great weekend away from HK and would definately go again.
